Continued spot spreading Heritage G. Cheaper this way. Hoosier made a good point to get more Pre Em down. Will be dropping N 1lb/K this week. Still at highest HOC.

Watered to 1 inch. Serenade at 3 oz per 1000. Lots of rust on my new reno right now. Just started using Serenade about 3 weeks ago so I didn't start early enough.

Looking forward to impending rain in next hour through Sunday AM here in Central VA. @ estimated~2"
Then 2-3 days of low to mid 80's will allow me to use the WBG CCO & Sedgehammer in spots.
Things are falling into place. Buwahhhaaa.

Took advantage of the cool temps to purge the spurge in the backyard. Hit the front reno with round 2 of the roundup.

Mowed at 3.75", trimmed, and blew.
Lawn looks terrible after 2 weeks of 90-100 degree temperatures and then getting almost 10" of rain this last week. The only things looking OK are the wild violets and crabgrass...

Put down half-bag-rate of Milorganite, an app of Milky Spore powder, and changed the bags on my Japanese Beetle traps.

Looking good psu4me.
Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Received ~1" of rainfall in last 24 hours, more is forecasted through today. It is most appreciated as we haven't had any appreciable rain for several weeks now.
Took advantage of the wet soil to hand pull young weeds: foxtail, crabgrass, sericea lespedeza, clover, and nutsedge.
The lespedeza is the most abundant and harder to pull up when the soil is dry. Darn seeds stay viable in the soil for 20 plus years.

Dropped my height of cut down to 2" from 2.5" on my first year grass over the weekend and already received a few compliments. All of the high temps this year have been in the 80-85 range so I'm not worried, and it seems to be doing better at these short heights than my old grass did at 4".

Monday morning, watered side front for total of 92 min., and hand watered hell strips.
This morning, watered main front and side for total of 92 min.
Made some sprinkler adjustments and nozzle swaps on upper back zone.
This evening, put down Tricure granular on area behind deck. Set sprinklers for total of 88 min on that zone for tomorrow morning.

Yesterday, SOP on front and watered entire lawn then received a surprise 1" of rain after midnight. With cooler temps in the forecast should have put down some milo as well. More rain forecast for the next couple days so will git'er done.

I like to keep Blue Velvet at 2 1/2" as well. My front lawn of 75% Blue Velvet 25% Bewitched gets many compliments. It's also POA free and has been since day one!rtomek wrote: ↑August 1st, 2017, 6:48 pmDropped my height of cut down to 2" from 2.5" on my first year grass over the weekend and already received a few compliments. Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Good to know. I see others raising heights, but I only cut once this summer at 3" right after I got back from vacation. I had to go back down to 2.5" two days later, it didn't even look like the same grass when cut higher. Must be something in the genetics.
I did manually water 0.2" overnight because my rainmachine seemed to be using a stale weather forecast and the rain never came. Still the first time the irrigation was used in over two weeks, it's been pretty mild and humid around here.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Watched 3" of rain come down in the course of a few hours. Sometimes sandy soil is worth celebrating.
I've been mowing at 3.5" for the last month or so (up from 3") and the grass has never looked better in the summer. The color wasn't "right" in May/June at 3", at least not for a couple days after mowing, but other than the tendency to look shaggy, 3.5" has been great. The poa annua is done and the poa triv is dormant, and we're getting plenty of rain, so I'm only seeing the "good grass" right now and it looks glorious. I'm sure I'll be whining over the triv in the fall but for now I'm very happy. Thanks to everyone on this site (especially Andy and HLG) for lots of help over the years.

Nothing lately, but I need to get out there and hit the fungus again.
