Modified my irrigation routine and adjusted sprinklers. I have a lot of browning from drought stress I'm fighting and some uneven irrigation patterns yet. Got some new mulching blades.

Of course I irrigated early in the morning on the day we get 3 inches of rain. Big swing and a miss from wunderground on the forecast prediction. That storm must have come out of nowhere. Lol

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
What a day. I spent just a couple of intense hours hustling on the lawn...
Used the irrigation system to water for 10 min x4 on main front. This is less than 1/2-inch. I did the light watering just as a holdover until the rain tomorrow. Also did 36 min on the side front (here again, I think less than a half inch, although this zone needs recalibration to know for sure). Did some hand-watering as well to the areas that had been worked on (hell-strips, et. al.). Realized the back overseed sprinklers were off halfway through the day. Hopefully the seed drying out almost completely once won't hurt germination.
Came home, and one of my hell-strips that I'd spent 2 weeks rehabbing had a tire track in it. What the____??!! This was the first, and hopefully last time.
Then, I mowed the low-input area (6.5K). Then put down 8.5 lbs of 0.15% Dimension 0-0-7 on it. Then 12 lbs of SOP. Then whatever was left in a bag of 5-4-0 Milorganite (I was aiming for 0.25 lb/K of N, but didn't measure). Then I did just under 1 lb of SOP on the upper back (full rate, except for the overseed area, which I skipped for now).
After hustling about doing all that, I started working on the hell-strip as it was getting dark. Cut the sod around the tire track, peeled it back, fluffed up the soil underneath, put the sod back, and added some seed (Firecracker LS).
All of this was in about 2 hours worth of time.

I put down 4oz per k of both KH and BLSC and a full app of baystate. Supposed to rain about an inch today so I hope the timing works.
Having some trouble with my chapin 20v, it only sprays full blast for 1/2 the time then it slows, and today it finally stopped. Ordered a new battery so if it's not that I'm going to try for a replacement.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Mowed tall fescue .5" lower to 2.75" in preparation for Sep 2 seed down.
On a side note, I've noticed recently not as many weeds either appearing or still actively growing. Guessing my hand pulling routine since June is making a difference or possibly the weeds know Fall is just around the corner and they're growth is slowing. Either way, at least there's less weeds on the turf when the new grass seed goes down.

Put my new mulching blades on last night an dropped the HOC. WOW what a difference a good cut makes. No clumps or stragglers that got missed.

I just cleaned it all and redid it. Worked fine for a minute and then died out again. Called Chapin and they are sending me the bottom switch unit where the battery connects. We shall see

"Waiting for rain!" Oh my, we can't be more than a couple hundred miles away from each other, and today has been rain all day here, varying between light showers to short-lived moderate downpours!
Our rain gauge shows 1.65 inches so far today, with no signs of it stopping any time soon...

I got a grand total of a bit less than 1/10th-inch. So much for 90% chance of rain and 1-2 inches forecasted.ken-n-nancy wrote: ↑August 18th, 2017, 6:27 pmOur rain gauge shows 1.65 inches so far today, with no signs of it stopping any time soon...
So, I'm actually watering right now.
On the area without irrigation, I had put down a light app of granular pre-M yesterday. I'm not sure what this light rain is going to do for it. I don't know if the pre-M app is going to rendered totally useless, or what. I don't plan on watering it in the rest of way to get 1/2-inch.

Put down 15-15-15 for an equivalent of 0.5#/k in front and back yards. Dropped HOC 1/2". Aiming for 2" HOC by end of September for over seeding.

After three hours of reading and assembly my new Brinly-Hardy 40" Plug Aerator is ready to tackle the compacted soil on seed down day. Just gotta purchase some Black Kow compost and all will be ready for the big day

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Last night: got hardly any rain, so started watering. Watered 1/2-inch on upper back and main front.
This AM: watered side front to about 1/2-inch.
Checked the output of that zone with cups to determine what changes I need to make to nozzles.
Hand-watered.
This evening, sprayed Velocity (blanket) on side, and where needed on main front (but mostly the areas that get some shade).
Tomorrow, I plan to mow and spray Serenade.
I'm looking to start a KBG overseed project on the side in a week or so. There was so much Triv this past year that's mostly dead now, plus the Velocity took out some of the KBG as well, so it's patchy now and needs seed.

Yesterday, we lowered the cut height from the summertime 3.75" down to 3.25" in anticipation of the cooler temps of fall that are now approaching.
Also now that the settling has all completed from the septic tank installation last fall, filled in the last mini-sinkhole above the new septic tank and started plugging the resultant bare spots with plugs taken from the Bewitched KBG side lawn.

Re: 2017: What did you do on your lawn today?
Mowed front and upper side. Still at max height (3.75 in).
Sprayed Serenade at 5oz rate on side front, upper back, and non-Velocity-treated parts of main front.
Watered as needed.
