No pre-emergent is 100% effective. Some weed seeds will still germinate. Also consider that many grassy weeds are perennial and pre-emergent won't do anything if they are already germinated. Poa Annua is interesting as it predominantly germinates in the fall, but often doesn't become noticeable until the spring. The best time to prevent Poa Annua with pre-emergent is in the fall. I am a bit surprised you see a lot of goosegrass as it generally doesn't germinate until it is much warmer.

Forsythia are popping here now today (01748). Tenacity is going down tmw.

If this is the time for weeds to start germinating, would grass seed start as well?

I finally found a forsythia here in the Twin Cities, MN metro (Eagan), and it looked to be in just about full bloom. My prodiamine is scheduled to arrive Wednesday. So I'll be applying it sometime before the end of Easter weekend.

Definitely popping here in 06614. Got the sprinklers fired up this afternoon in prep for the Pre-M tomorrow, most likely. Was going to throw 'er down tonight, but it's a bit too windy to water it in.

Here on the 45th parallel, nothing, ground still frozen in many areas. My thermometer shows 45 @ 4 inches around the dooryard.

I live in a pretty urban area, so my soil heats up pretty quick. It seems to never fail, there will be a warm spell for a couple days, and I would start to see goosegrass by the beginning of March, long before the forsythia bloom. My neighbor had a goosegrass yard when I moved in, and I eventually redid it for free with heat tolerant blue because I couldn't take the weed push anymore.
