Yo Yo temperatures in NY/NJ

Post by dan10 » May 18th, 2017, 7:11 am

Anyone here in NY and NJ noticing their lawns are not as growing as fast the past few weeks compared to prior years ? I have not seen the big spring flush this year.

It was 52 degrees and 2 inches of rain this past Saturday and 90 degrees yesterday.

Yeah it's all over the map (here in CT too). I've noticed the yesterday's heat helped with some green up.

Monday seems to be the next chance for rain, and I think I'm going to go ahead and drop some fert (type and amount tbd) to take advantage.

I'm in MA and would agree that my lawn really didn't wake up as expected. I've got KBG and assume different grass act differently but I got in my first real mow on Tuesday.

Same here in WI. Had some very cool weeks in may and a few hot days this week. Plenty of rain in spring however. Keep waiting for the spring flush everyone talks about. I attributed the very slow growth to my decreased spring n fertilization compared to previous years but guess I'm not the only one noticing it. On another note my KBG has started exhibiting seedheads like crazy the past few days.

Ditto. My posted images on my blog thingy just don't look that great, really: http://thegreengreengrassofhome.blogspot.com/

It's been a weird year. The gardens went in a bit late due to frosts and generally crappy cold weather, then immediately got blasted by 90 degrees (I'm showing 95° in the garden as of right this instant). I'm running occasional cool-downs with the irrigation system, but the zinnia are taking a severe beating and losses are very high at around 25 plants out of 700 this year.
