Sarlac Pit Help

Post by jmlrugby » May 30th, 2017, 12:41 pm

As the temperature is rising out here, over 100 on average the past few weeks, I am noticing some dry spots right next to perfect turf.

At first I thought it was was something buried, but, I drove an 8 inch probe into the ground without and issue. I ran soaker hoses over the spots for several hours and that solved the issue for about 48 hours and then they came back. This picture was taken within two days of the area being covered by 3 inches of water from flood irrigation so I have resolved that it is not a typical dry spot issue. Furthermore, the Reservoir DG is not helping in these spots either. I then core sampled a small segment of a few patches and found a mostly sand mixture.

I think the former owner was filling in some old grapefruit trees or whatnot with builders sand. Anyways, anybody have any ideas on how to fix these spots? I recognize that I need more dirt/OM in the area, but should I dig it out and back fill it or just layer on top of the spot?
