Milorganite shortage?

Post by Maizan24 » June 13th, 2017, 10:47 am

I'm assuming this is not the case but the nearest source for me to buy it is lowes and the one I shop has 0. The next closest one has 2 bags. I think the highest quantity i noticed was 5 bags but it wasn't in an area near me. Also noticed my local wal mart stopped carrying it. What gives?

No shortages around here. Maybe you're in an area where not that many use it so stores adjusted their stock accordingly?

Where in CT are you? I checked Home Depot and they seem to have 50+ in stock at every store in CT.

Possibly. I'll give a call and see if maybe its just on order or maybe see if tractor supply company has any.

I'm in Bristol. And as "luck" would have it they don't stock milorganite at the home depot by my house. I think they may just carry the smaller bags for gardening. There's a lowes on the way home fron work that shows as having 2 bags left which should be all I need to do what I have to do. Hopefully they are still there when I get there!

You try to do this every year. Has it worked yet? :rotfl:

Not available for delivery. I need to go there anyway today to get something to fill in the holes some carpenter bees decided to drill into my deck. I plan on asking someone in the garden center about it.

So I'm beginning to think this is some sort of conspiracy. All of the lowes in my general area are either out or have 1 or 2 bags left. Not available for delivery at any of them. Hone depot that's literally 2 minutes from my house does not carry it nor does any in the nearest town. Agn015 is correct that home depot has it but it seems like it's in the southern towns. I even called tractor supply a few minutes ago which is only a few miles from my house and they don't carry it. Come to think of it the true value which is also close by doest have it either! Arrgghh. Think I'll just go to the home depot in the town I work since it appears they have it. The lowes that had those 2 bags put me on hold when I called and no one ever picked up and then the phone hung up so with my luck I'll get there and they would have just sold if they even have them to begin with. The distances I go for a bag of poop!

Honestly last fall I created a shortage on the south side of Indy. I cleared out all but a handful of bags @ 2 Walmarts and a Menards.

Maizan...all I can guarantee is...I'm not creating a shortage like HLG says he did last year.

Btw, try Agway.

Lowes recently had that sale on Milorganite, maybe they haven't stocked back up. The Menards near me has plenty and it is priced at $8.99/bag and that's not a sale price!

if you are checking Lowes online and not calling I have noticed in my area they list it under 2 different SKUs 1 is always out of stock or at 1 left and the other is the real quantity. the one with the real stock number i believe was the one the had Professional or something like that listed on the description.

Maizan, i feel ya. Between the 5 nearest lowes for me, 3 bags! Looks like my closest home depot has it. I don't really need it right now, but i'm gonna pick it clean anyways. I did notice wtih lowes, you can't even order it and ship it to the stores, or delivery to your house. You can only purchase what's in stock. Wonder if they are going to drop it?

Looking like they aren't going to carry it just based on how every store I checked online had 0 or 1 or 2 bags which was probably an inventory issue. I ended up going to the hd in the town I work in which was pretty inconvenient but I got what I needed. I think next time I'm going to see if agway has it which is closer to where I live. Good luck!

About two weeks ago I went to my local HD where I get Milo and they were completely out. Went back a week later, and still out. Had to go to a different HD to get it. This was the first time they were completely out.

I can't seem to find more than two bags locally. I used to be the only one in my small town that used Milorganite. I never had a problem finding it locally last year. This year, there seems to be a lot of in-store marketing aimed at using Milorganite as a deer repellent. (Although I think it actually attracts deer to my yard) I wonder if this new marketing push is what's causing the shortage in my area. I only use Milo primarily for the iron so in the absence of Milo, I've been using Ferrous Sulfate (aka Scott's Moss Control granules) in small amounts. The Ferrous Sulfate was recommended to me last year as a result of my soil test interpretation.

There might be another issue...

The big box stores that are now low on inventory...
Were they carrying the new 5-4-0, or the older 5-2-0?

Even if there wasn't a sku change, there could have been a supply/distribution/stock clearing issue/interruption resulting in temporary decrease in inventory while the stock changes over to the new formula.

I agree with the distribution/supply issue possibility, but I ain't buying "changing over to a new formula". This is a natural product and not a factory formula. They probably would rather stick with the old NPK, but they can only put into the bag what came into the plant.
