Pre m and sunlight

Post by 71GTO » October 16th, 2017, 8:56 pm

I was doing some reading and I came across this page from johnathan green. It mentions that using a pre m like demension on bare dirt will break down faster because of sunlight hitting it. How true is that and if so does anyone have an idea of how much faster is breaks down?

Too many factors and homeowners are not oriented to be calculating stuff like that. Even if someone gave you a number, the strength of the sun due to latitude and season would be major factors.

Thanks Andy, Do you have a rate recommendation for pre m apps on a more dirt then grass area to get you through the bulk of the season?

I believe the recommended rate would be approx 3lbs/k of KBG or 5-6lbs/k of TTTF or Rye, then worry about pre-M. No in all seriousness, why pre-m bare dirt in a lawn? Best way to prevent weeds is a thick stand of grass right?
