Is now a good time to dig up grass?

I had a patio put in last year and they need to redo some of the substrate due to some frost heaving. They will likely need to dig back into the yard a good 2’ to redo it. I’d certainly have them save the sod to replace it but I’m wondering if that is a good idea given the time of year. I’m concerned that with the grass not growing now, it would die off.

Other option is to wait till spring.

Appreciate any insights you guys have.
