Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
My lawn in S.E. mass was all thawed out, and I had no problem getting my soil samples last week. Then 2' of snow hit us and its been a high of 30deg ever since.
Before the snow the grass seemed like it was starting to green and I swear a few buds on the Forsythia were just starting to form. I am thinking nothing much will be happening until like April this year, but well see. Its nice to know what look for now.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
I got the blades and mower tuned up and the first mow is complete. The grass is always a little taller than I think it will be on the first mow of the year. Some areas of the yard (shade) are still dormant. Dropped my Pre-M which was Prodiamine packaged in with 13-0-4. Not ideal, but that's what was available at the local garden center. I don't think a little extra N will kill me, especially since I missed the final app last season. I have some seed down in certain areas so they did not get treated.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
I have Copper, Borax, Zinc, Iron, leftover Urea/other, and a source for SOP. I also have soil temps in the upper 30's and a forecast for 8-10 inches of snow tomorrow. So what I did today will probably be the same as I do for another week or two - planning and waiting.

In hind sight, Im glad I took my soils ample. At least that is out of the way, I would have been waiting until April to get that done.RichS wrote: ↑March 19th, 2018, 5:14 pmI have Copper, Borax, Zinc, Iron, leftover Urea/other, and a source for SOP. Put down prodiamine 65 wdg. First time using this approach, fingers crossed. Worked out to just under 1 tablespoon per thousand. Which i believe will get me until june/july. Crabgrass has not been an issue for a few years even when i skipped pre em a couple years beack for the season. Saw no poa thanks to last fall granular app. Fingers crossed

You're lucky. I will not be able to do mine until April. Between snow cover, rain/saturated ground (and frozen soil in the back still), it's not in my immediate future.northeastlawn wrote: ↑March 19th, 2018, 5:31 pmIn hind sight, Im glad I took my soils ample. Same here. I beat the rush, already have almost all of the material, and am ready to go. Now Mother Nature just needs to co-operate. Winter Storm Warning on the first day of Spring just isn't right.northeastlawn wrote: ↑March 19th, 2018, 5:31 pmIn hind sight, Im glad I took my soils ample. Bizarre forecasting for here: on Weather.com, the local forecast is 1"-3" tomorrow and 1"-3" tomorrow night. ON THE SAME PAGE is the NWS Winter Storm Warning which says 10"-14" with spots of 16"+.
Just another day...

Those storms usually pass through KY on their way up to you all, Of course, we usually get only get a fraction of the snow the NE gets and we are expecting 2 inches tonight here so...

Tornado watches and warnings yesterday, and a dusting of snow tonight...just another day in TN. Literally every time I go put out seed in my bare areas and cover it with peat moss..we get a freaking heavy down pour and it all washes off...-_-

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Yup, you apparently caught them in the process of an update. One minute it was predicted to be 3-8 inches here, and then it was 12-16. I have a feeling they won't know for sure until it's well underway. That's been the pattern with these March storms this year.
-------------------------------------------------
This evening, I picked up sticks and raked leaves/fluffed up grass on the side front and hell strips. This has to be the 4th time I've raked that area this Winter (or Spring, since it's been Spring for a few hours now...whatever it is). Just crazy that there are so many leaves this year. I guess they're coming from what's still left on Oak trees (not much) and a neighbor about 500 feet away who didn't clean up their leaves this Fall.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
My neighbor posted a forecast of a foot on Saturday here. We got 3 ijnches last night.
By evening it was upper 40s and all melted away.
I applied priodiamine at less than half rate. On 1.4 acres. With a 4 gallon backpack sprayer. 7 fill ups. Skipped my overseeded areas.
I can't see yellow on the forsythia I use normally but I will be travelling all next week and have much to do beforehand. Things are waking up for sure. I also need to get PGR out before I leave.

We got about 4 inches at our house, but locally as much as 8" yesterday. Very heavy, wet snow. I lost several branches as well as a significant part of my beautiful dogwood.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
It ended up being a couple of inches of snow, and all the new snow melted already. Daffodils have been starting to come up for more than a week now. I inspected the front lawn today and started strategizing.

I tried to fill in some low spots. Planted some knockout roses.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Fixed some damage in the upper back that I think was due to freeze-thaw cycles and melting snow flow. I added a little bit of Bullseye TTTF seed into the damaged lines before closing them up and stepping on them to compact.

Hoping some of this snow melts today with the warmer and sunnier weather. Forsythia bushes have yellow nubs on them, its almost time to drop pre-M.

Winter is not going quietly this year.
