New blades on the tractor this morning and back to mulching leaves. Cut down the ornamental grass. Time for an adult beverage!

Tractor fail yesterday as main belt derailed. Belt schematic sticker on deck bottom was wrong (ugh!). Finally figured out that the sticker had the belt on the wrong side of the Idler. Got all the leaves up with 5 minutes left before sun dropped behind the mountain.

Last mow of the season with a bag. Got almost nothing. Serviced both mowers and home standby generator. Put lawn equipment away and moved snowblower to accessible location. Soil temp is now 39 degrees at 3 inches with colder weather in the forecast. Dropping final Urea app before the snow that is forecast tonight. Tuned up all the family ski and snowboard gear so bring the winter fun Mother Nature.

Mowed today, possibly the last mow of the season, highs will dip into the 30s for the next 7-10 days, top growth usually stops when the soil temperature is below 40.

I picked up six bags of leaves from a curb, dumped them on my lawn and mulched them.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Last real mowing of the season. It has been about 10 days and I cut about 1/8", probably from the first few days in the 60's. Highs have been in the 40's since then and soil temp has dropped from about 54 to 42 today - I'm confident growth is done.
I went 45 degrees to my last up and down to set the pattern for the winter, picking up stray leaves twigs, etc., etc.
Then a final Urea application - just over 2 lbs/K. Only one spill this year - I scraped up what I could by hand and flooded the area to flush it out. I've left the hose there and will continue for a few days - only about 1 square foot.
All that's left now is one final pass over turkey weekend - hide the tracks from the spreader today, pick up any last junk after the last of the leaves are down, and warm up the mower/tractor to change the oil, clean the filter(s)/plugs, put in stabilized fuel, etc. Then this is the alternate year where I drop the mower deck, wash everything, clean out the nooks and crannies, and get out the scraper and Deere-colored Rustoleum to paint where needed. It takes a while, but after 12 years, the tractor still looks good (the Honda mower is minimal maintenance, by comparison).

Mulched leaves. Planted 4 pots in spots hit by fungus this summer. Six more pots to go in over the next week or two.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Shoveled extra snow cover off the edges to help it melt on time. There are still about 3 of the original 10 inches remaining in the front, and more in the back. The low-input area is a mess of slush, standing water, and ice...including my overseed. Not cool!

Mowed back with bag on to provide chopped leaves for the vegetable garden. Side discharged front lawn and finished in the dark with my son's LED bicycle headlight.

shredded leaves, no growth to speak of, seems ices and snow this week brought things to a halt. Urea goes down in about 15 minutes.

Checked soil temps in the front.
Most areas were 40F or so. 1-inch temps slightly lower, but still above freezing. Air temp was 37F, and snow temp was 32F.
This is a good sign, and means I have not passed the window for the winterizing fertilizer application.
Still 1-2 in of snow in the front in many areas, but starting to melt. There appears to be 2-3 inches in the back.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Mulched leaves and got winterizer (i.e. urea 1#N/K) down. I had a leaf cover and partial snow dilemma, but was able to blow a lot leaves off the snow, into some clear areas, and mulch up them there. Went right into dark, then opened a growler of IPA.

I mowed. Took just a whisker off, then I cleaned some leaves around the curbs. The sun was out and it felt great this afternoon.

Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Good to see another person in the Columbus, Ohio area. I mulched leaves in the front yard today. Growth has either stopped or nearly so here. I almost dropped the winterizer today with rain showers tomorrow and lows in the 20s this week, but alas didn't do it. Looking like next weekend will be rainy so hopefully I can time it in then as I don't plan to get hoses back out to water it in by hand.DevilDawg81 wrote: ↑November 18th, 2018, 8:53 pmI mowed. Re: 2018: What did you do on your lawn today?
Well good thing I didn't try to put down winterizer yesterday. Rain "showers" turned into another inch of rain overnight on already saturated ground. Lots of puddles in the yard and a small stream running between neighbor's yard and mine. What a wet year!

Winterized my system last week. Waiting for dry / warm weather to cut one, maybe two more times.

Mulched the back but front still has some spots with snow. Transplanted 5 pots so one left, which I am going to bring inside over the winter as an experiment.

Hey jimmo! Top growth for me has slowed. I’m still seeing growth, albeit little, it's still growth.

Over 60 inches of rain fell this year so far, what a season it's been!
