Ours was a "sorta" frost. We got patchy frost that penetrated about halfway into the gardens and took out almost everything at the edges of more than half the gardens and the tropical plants throughout.

I'm calling it first frost, 20 hours early for the year. :-)
We had an "almost sorta" frost the other night...mower tracks were whitish, grass a bit dark and stiff with no dew until it thawed at 9AM.

Last night/this morning was the first real frost. Stuff is dying now. It hit 33 or so here for air temp this morning, and probably a lot lower at ground level.

Was away this week and we had a cold night where it dipped below freezing. Some folks in town had a bit of frost or scraped their car windows, but my neighborhood didn’t seem to get actual frost. My tomatoes felt it though. Front (new grass/full sun) is still growing and could be mowed this week, back (older grass, more shade) has slowed and i could skip it this week.

So, I’d love to get one more dose of urea in for this year. Do you think I’m still in the clear?

Average frost was pretty much on point. I had enough urea on hand to do another fall nitrogen app, but now I’ll just be putting down the winterizer later this year.

If you are past the average frost date, you are in The Pause. Unless you have records that says that the stoppage of growth is always more than four weeks after first average frost, it's time to wait for growth stoppage.

Also, please go to the Profile and add your Lawn Size and Experience Level.

Like mine. It's never been shorter than 6.5 weeks (and often is longer) since I've been a member here and keeping track. That said, I still rarely fertilize much past average first frost...but I would if there was a good reason to do so, such as rust.

first frost was on 10/19, 4 weeks after the lawn was overseeded. Hope the new grass can survive.

Our first frost/freeze warning was on 10/15 which is about on time. We had a hard freeze last night 10/22. I put down my last application of Urea on 10/11. I blew out my irrigation system on Columbus day weekend (10/8), but Mother Nature took care of the watering for me.

The source I used said 50% historical probability on October 19. My weather station dropped from 32.2 to 31.8 degrees between 11:34 and 11:44pm on the 18th.

Had our first frost this morning. Pretty much on time. I estimated avg first frost for my location to be 11/1-11//2 from Dave's Garden, which had two locations near me with dates of 10/27 and 11/7. Currently, it's 61* in my backyard, which is pleasantly a few degrees higher than the avg high for today. Dropped urea on Monday and watered it in. :good:

Dropped Urea as a Fall Regimen app, or as a final (winterizing) app?

We still haven’t had a frost and looks like it’ll be maybe another week before we do. Average here is october 20. There have been frosts in neighboring communities, though. Ground soil temps at 4” vary from 46-50 depending on the part of my yard. Had bad fungus his summer but have had decent partial recovery (hope for more over the next couple weeks but I suppose we are in pause).

Urea drop was the last of the weekly aggressive regimen series. Now the waiting begins, until growth stops, for the winterizer app.

Mine is October 10'th but we had a very mild frost 10/12 and first hard frost was 10/16. I blew out my irrigation to early and had to redo it the other day. Greenrebellion- You are basically directly in line with me- You have not had a hard frost yet?
I'm in southeast MI about 25 minutes north of Detroit. No frost yet at my house, but definitely a "hard frost" where i work about 45 minutes west.

My log from last year has the first week of November marked as first noticeable frost - we're more in line with the average first frost this year which is the first week of October. Quite odd since we had lingering heat (it was 85 degrees a week and a half ago!).

I've already stopped the urea apps for the year (until the winterizer) just to be safe.
What City? I'm in Lake Orion.
I'm in Royal Oak.

Had our first visible frost here in Renton, WA. 8 days earlier than the predicted 50% first frost date (11/16). Backyard didn't get any frost though. I thought I was going to be able to do final urea drop before the pause. Not likely now. This is the first year I'm tracking everything to try and get the best average first frost date for my area.

We barely missed an early frost. Typical first frost is ~Nov 10, but we hit 35° on October 14.
Wow, right on time this year. First freeze in the books as of today. Currently sitting at 23°.

It looks like I had my first hard frost last night. Woke up to a nice white lawn. The predicted first frost was October 20th and we seem to have had light frost a few weeks ago (Oct 30th). Hard to say what it all means to my plan, but I stopped Milo and micros back in early Sept, and now I am waiting for the growth to stop to drop Urea. It's close.
