Snow cover anyone?

Post by rucraz2 » November 13th, 2018, 10:40 am

So here in Minnesota we got some snow last week. Just enough to cover the ground. It's been under 30 degrees out since. I still have trees that are not done yet and my front yard has some piles of leaves that I need to mulch. My back yard has a thin blanket of mulched leaves and grass that I was hoping to go over another couple of times. I think it's supposed to get up to 40 maybe tomorrow but then back down into the low 30's and 20's for the next week. Im starting to feel the pinch if I am going to be able to get out there anymore this year. The thought did cross my mind of just going out there in the snow with the mower almost for scientific reasons of curiosity? It sounds like we are supposed to get some more snow in the future here with the low temps. Which makes me think how am I going to get my last app down and how will it do throwing on top of snow? Anyone else in my boat?

No snow cover here, but my soil temp went from 50 to 32 almost overnight. It's supposed to warm up a little next week.

Yep. East of St. Paul.

We were supposed to have flurries last Thursday evening into Friday and ended up with 2.5 inches and air temps below 30 since. As I had mowed the Thursday before and had clippings, I intended to mow again on the weekend.

Still have cover and air temps are predicyed to get into the upper 30s tmorrow and 40s on Thursday, so the snow will be gone.

FWIW, checking my records, my winterizing UREA drop has been 11/14, 11/17 and 11/15 the last three years.

Will see what Thursday brings.

We are getting from 1-3 inches over night tonight in Southern NH.

Luckily all the leaves are already off the trees and gone off the lawn.

When we get early snows it usually doesn’t stick around but after mid December it sticks around for the rest of the season.

I'm in your boat. Temps dropped quickly and I got my last mow in yesterday. Today I'll be cleaning the gutters and putting the lawn furniture away before we get 5-8" tonight. 42deg on Saturday and then it's low 30s for the next 10 days. This probably won't be the last time I see the green ground but who knows...

Sprinklers are getting blown out today (professionally). Not sure if I should drop my last app tonight before the snow falls or hold off. The grass was still growing as of a few days ago. This is the first time I've used urea and my last drop before the pause was 10/10.

OK, remember that two inches? Try nine instead.

Still, it should melt by Sunday.

8" here, but we were lucky. Out where Seiyafan lives (IIRC, 15 miles from here) they got 18"+ and it's still snowing here). Tons of stories of 6-10 hour commutes home from work last night. This won't go away quickly...

You poor guys out there. Ours melted enough that I am hoping to get out today before we get another 3-5 inches starting around 5pm. Doesn't look to warm up either. I am assuming growth has stopped, but I still don't know 100%. We still have a handful of trees with more leaves than not.

Yeah, about the same amount here. It looks like I might not be mowing/leaf mulching this weekend (tomorrow/Sunday), but I'm hoping it melts and dries out enough at least by Sunday to do so. Maybe I'm being optimistic, as it will likely melt in many areas, but may not dry enough by then. I'm also hoping my overseed in the low input area, which is under slush right now, survives the Winter.

Definitely a wild storm, they said the cold temps stayed around longer than anticipated which led to the higher amounts. We got about 5” or so. Haven’t put Dow the winterizer yet, hope this melts so I can gauge stoppage

Here in Western MA got about 8" of "heart attack" snow.
The original prediction was 1-4".
Sun came out early afternoon and melted some of it.
A little more is expected Sunday night.
and so it begins................. :(

Had 3"-4" of sloppy, wet snow which basically melted by Friday morning. I picked up about a snowball's worth in my southward facing front yard before I mulched leaves this afternoon.
