DevilDawg, are you really mowing every day?
Mowed last night, and FAS/PGR.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Not quite every day, but at least every other day. I’ve had a couple of stretches where it was everyday just because rain is on the extended forecast and I don’t want to get caught behind where I’m raking clumps. Admittedly my lawn is .25 acre, it takes one hour tops to buzz it off. I’m easily following the 1/3 rule with the frequent mowing and this is just my personal observation; I feel like I’m seeing a lot better weed control meaning I’m not seeing as many. The turf looks thicker and stronger than ever. I did follow the aggressive nitrogen plan last fall.HoosierDaddy wrote: ↑May 30th, 2019, 1:31 pmDevilDawg, are you really mowing every day?

Sorry I got off on a tangent but I had to share my observations.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Came home late yesterday morning to find that my 85 yr old neighbor had mowed his lawn with his riding lawnmower.
Unfortunately he drove his mower into my front yard to make a turn.
He mows very, very short.
I now have a huge swath in my lawn that is scalped!
I just got the HOC even at 3 1/2".
Here is a picture taken in early May.
The area he mowed through is where the fire hydrant is.
The hemlocks are his.
A few years ago he made a turn on my lawn with his fertilizer.
Burnt my grass.
I maintain the area to avoid problems.
My project this weekend is to put a 3' dark green plastic fence.

Finally started my biofungicide regimen today with a 4oz/K app of Serenade. Planning on spraying it weekly up until around mid to late September.

Sprayed triclopyr on some patches of clover. Pulled some triv growing in a shaded bed. Sprayed some Japanese stilt grass in the back area bordering woods (didn’t want to use my fenoxaprop in that area since I just wanted to kill anything growing in this one spot.)

Trying out liquid aeration (Simple Lawn Solutions). Have tried mechanical aeration but have never noticed much difference on my clay soil. Treated ~1/2 acre using pump sprayer. Should have spent the $10 and got the hose-end sprayer... would've saved me a ton of time.

If you ever need a septic pumped in the central Indiana area and care about your lawn, hire these guys:
The guy came to my front door and said, i see you care about your lawn and i was afraid to even step on it. He then asked for a hose to get rid of the spots, asked before he put a spade in the ground, removed the sod he needed in a few places and replaced it perfectly. He even saved me an afternoon of work and removed an unnecessary riser so I could mow over it and not have to trim that spot. At the best rate.
He said he was trained to do this by his dad who owns it when they see a nice lawn.

Mow #18, sprayed CCO killer, edged. Our Asian Lillie’s haven’t bloomed yet but are starting to turn red. This is the latest I’ve seen them in the year yet to bloom in the 11 years we’ve been here.

Put down 160 lbs of Milo at bag rate, trimmed trees to raise the canopy a bit, soothing aches with adult beverage on a beautiful late afternoon. Rain is coming tonight .

Basically mow when I can between rain. Yesterday was plant all the annuals, double-check all the irrigation heads (a couple of them are spraying off for some reason), and all the trimming.

Thanks, Blue Demp. It's erroding some due to the lack of grass on the edge. Had the bulk of my poa annua problems in that area the last 2 years; still pretty thinned out now.

Got another mow in yesterday. Has been really windy here lately…ok with me; free OM (bunches of leaves) has been falling from the sky and getting mulched up with each mow.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Still haven't used irrigation system yet this year. This is the latest ever. If we don't get rain by Thursday, it's going on Friday morning. I really want to follow the weekly, 1 inch rule this year. I truly believe some of the grassy weed issues I have are due to not following the 1 inch per week watering schedule. When we get those 90 degree days in July and August, it's hard not to water more frequently.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Going for the record!
Mine was opened during early/mid May, but only because we had to work on it. I did water parts of the yard once already, but didn't have to until late May. This was so much better than that year (2016?) when it was in the 90s for several days straight in the beginning of May, with no rain in sight. People's lawns were actually burning up because irrigation contractors couldn't get everyone activated in time. It actually feels like I live in a true cool-season area this Spring, for once.
-----------------------------------------------
Today, I finally got my first Serenade app at 4oz rate down on the front! Of course, I see some dollar spot and red thread action starting up, but better late than never. Really need to get my Spring organic Nitrogen down...
Also found out today that my former neighbor (who transferred the house to his daughter for her family years ago) is moving back, into a house that had been up for sale.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
One other thing. I noticed this past week that we've reached the "hardening off" stage for the grass around here this Spring. There's a perceptible difference now; it no longer looks like new growth after the Winter for the most part. With that, I've also noticed more browning in some lawns...likely disease rather than insufficient water, since we've had mostly sufficient rain this month.
