Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Left for vacation at the shore yesterday, and put the irrigation on autopilot 0.5" every other day as "insurance" while I'm not there to oversee it -- the only time of the year that it's on autopilot. I can override it if desired from the shore via using mobile phone anyway. It's overkill but let's me sleep well.
Argggh! While packing the car, I put my new dark gray laptop on the dark gray seat in the car and proceeded to (you guessed it) sit on it a few minutes later. Now viewing the Internet and ATY through crazed spiderweb that was the touchscreen. I guess it could have been worse than just the touchscreen.

Spread 4 yards of compost across the lawn. Planted about 20 perennials and shrubs.
Applied Milo at bag rate. Busy lawn day.

Wow, hot day for all that work. I hope you have air conditioning indoors!KBGkicksazz wrote: ↑July 13th, 2019, 4:32 pmSpread 4 yards of compost across the lawn. Planted about 20 perennials and shrubs.

I mowed the lawn and thought I'd never stop sweating after coming inside afterwards (no AC in our house)...

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
It was brutal and I actually felt sick to the point I had to take a break. And yes, we have central AC.
Hopefully the compost pays dividends with my sandy loam situation.
Lawn only has one area needing a patch rest of it looks very thick and lush. I get a lot of compliments on it.
I’m mowing every 3 days right now.

Any idea how it happened? Screwdriver test gone wrong?HoosierLawnGnome wrote: ↑July 13th, 2019, 9:20 pm
Yeah, found an irrigation issue. Depressuring the whole zone and causing some missed spots
I had a chipmunk eat through a drip irrigation line last year.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
I’d be interested to know that story. I recently had drip irrigation installed and it’s netafim 1/2 in line with 1/4 lines going to the plants with pressure compensating emitters at the plant itself.
Currently it’s all exposed and my plan is to lay mulch over it next spring when dressing the beds.
My irrigation guy said don’t bury it as critters will eat it.
How is yours installed?

Frost heave and mowing at 1.5 inches with a reel mower.
I found the nozzle 100 yards away at the end of the stripe, carried in the cutting unit.
Looks like I'm digging later.

Ours is buried about 1" into the soil. We then have about an inch of mulch over the top. A chipmunk was digging a hole, as they seem to do everywhere, and chewed through it. Even in two separate places about a foot apart!KBGkicksazz wrote: ↑July 14th, 2019, 5:58 amI’d be interested to know that story. ... Oh boy. I need to plan according.
I have a drip irrigation line going across my back yard to my hosta bed that is probably their most likely target.

I put down a full dose of BSF. It was about 36 days from my last app, and color is still holding well, but i need to see how nitrogen effects the fungus I'm dealing with. I need to confirm or rule out brown patch; hoping this will do it. I'm about 2 weeks into a curative regimen of azoxy and propiconazole; not seeing much results yet.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Last few weeks, zero rainfall and hot/humid conditions 90-100 degrees without heat index. Mowing once a week, and irrigating every 3-5 days depending on what I'm seeing.
Hoping for rain soon, but long term forecast has nothing going into August.

Sprayed Serenade on the front, back, and side (without the Nu-Film...was in a rush to get somewhere after). Of course, my neighbor decided to water around 9:30PM and it probably diluted my spray the first three feet over the border. I did not go back and re-spray after that (would have been 10:15PM), but likely will hit it again tomorrow evening with Nu-Film since I have to hand water my new grass areas and wash it off, anyway. Dewpoint was 76 earlier. 74 now.

Re: 2019: What Did You Do On Your Lawn Today?
Good rain the past few weeks but heat peaking this weekend. Close to 100 yesterday and expecting same today. Grass holding up well excepting a few fungal challenges. Taking TT's advice and holding off cutting this weekend. Applied Serenade @ 3oz/k as part of my ongoing every 3 weeks program.
Also, pulled the deck to sharpen blades, powerwash and re-paint the underside of the deck. Surprised by the amount of matted grass and rust developing underneath. All fresh, sharp and leveled now.

Saturday I jackknifed the trailer into my vehicle after taking a load of brush to the burn pile
Got a break from the heat and a significant amount of rain. Should be low 80s this week so plan to get some micros spread on the yard. I've been a little behind on everything due to the heat.

Mowed yesterday. Lawn under a lot of stress from the extreme heat last week. Cooler weather finally, so sprayed FAS last night and watered in this morning. Also fighting my summer patch areas. Sprayed with 3oz/k of Companion this morning before watering in. Preventive measures earlier this Spring seemed to have helped this year compared to prior years, but still some spots and stress showing.

I have one spot of something like brown patch or summer patch. Good year so far for that, but dollar spot is back - again.HoosierDaddy wrote: ↑July 25th, 2019, 10:18 amMowed yesterday.
