Watered all zones 1" of water early this morning using my timer. I've noticed some sections of the front (near my driveway and sidewalks) getting brown even though I've properly watered and mowed this summer. I guess it is unavoidable for some of that grass!

What I didn't do.

I didn't water.

I watered once in July.

But I've decided to commit. Watering in July cost me almost $10. Blue grama is becoming mor prevalent. I think I'm going to just stop watering and start seeding when bare spots show up.

What a rough month. Between July 4th and August 6th I had less than an inch of rain. Pretty bad for this area.
Mowing every 10 days or so, and finally getting 1+ inches of rain last night and chances for another inch tonight.
Preparing for the wake up and fall blitz.

With rain forecast for tomorrow, I finished pulling the weeds out of the yard, took a long delayed soil sample (and mailed it - will post next week), put down my second of three biweekly Milorganite applications (at which time I'll switch to urea), and lastly spread my late summer Dimension 0-0-7 application to control the poa annua. I'm grateful my employer lets me work at home from time-to-time - I wouldn't have been able to get all that done in one day if I also had to commute.

I walked around, looking for signs of blue grama in dead spots that I dormant seeded last winter. I thought that most of the seed I put down had failed to germinate, but there are lots of seedlings in lots of the formerly dead spots.

I watered once last month and where gotten almost a half inch of rain this month. Since blue grama is a warm season native, that may be enough water to germinate the seed. It's certainly enough to make the established blue grama happy. It's thriving, while most of the other grass (including the cool season natives) is struggling. Much of the remaining traditional grass is dormant or dying. The back yard gets a lot of shade, so the kbg does fine there with little approval water (before you tell me how much sun kbg needs, remember that I'm in Utah, so it's high mountain desert, which means a little sun goes a long way, along other things).

After I finished we had a nice light gentle rain.
Hopefully the milo I put down last thursday finally enjoys the drink. :amen:

Put seed down on a couple reno areas. The two spots I did last year didnt do well. One was because of grubs the other was I dont feel I used the best seed type for that particular section. I mixed in a bit more shade blend this time so I think it will take better than the sun and shade mix I used last time.

Sprayed last round of Bermuda killer on the yards for the season. It really should have another application next month but I've got to overseed this fall so that will have to do it. I'm waiting for the tree guys to come put some cables in a large silver maple and trim some of the limbs. Seed arrived so I'm ready to go in a few weeks.
