Baystate Fertilizer at Lowes?
I went down about two weeks ago and got a pallet so I have some for the beginning of spring. Got to talking with Carl and he said that with the milorganite shortage last year, he’s been approached about doing a 500 ton test run with Lowes.
Not sure if it’ll make it all the way through to final approval but it does seem to make sense.
Interested to see if it does anything to the process in place today (production, testing, certification etc)

If it does happen, one would guess it would be only in Mass, right? Not CT and RI as well...? 500 tons...how many pallets is that?

A pallet is a ton, so 500.

Re: Baystate Fertilizer at Lowes?
MA has 26 Lowes. So that's like 20 pallets per store. I doubt they'd go through that many.
Sounds like enough to expand it to CT and RI.

While we're at it...
MA: 26 stores
CT: 16
RI: 5
NH: 13
VT: 2
ME: 11
NY:69
Total: 142 stores in NE and NY (New England and all states bordering MA)
That's like 3 pallets per store. Now we're starting to get more realistic numbers...
Still 100% idle speculation as to what areas their pilot program might cover. But I'd say it's fairly likely it'll be not just MA, just based on the numbers (if they end up doing 500 pallets). They could ship it all to the West Coast, instead...who knows.

They would probably ship it north ,south, east and west to see customer response to the product. That is just my best guess.

Iowa Jim, that would be my guess, too. We'll see what happens.

He said it was an initial test so I’m assuming that means they will see how it sells in areas. If it were me I wouldn’t saturate a particular area. Shipping costs are real so I bet at some point some stores carry baystate and some Milo. I could see baystate staying regional on a steady state.

Re: Baystate Fertilizer at Lowes?
I don't know if it's still true or not, but it used to be that you had to have a federal permit to cross state lines. I haven't seen anything that says Bay State has that complete, and it is neither a fast nor a cheap process.

Re: Baystate Fertilizer at Lowes?
That would be a big barrier lol
Good thing is he said that they still "plan" to sell it at the docks as he does today so we will see.

Re: Baystate Fertilizer at Lowes?
I recently picked up 25 bags and was happy to see that it's still $3.50 each. One thing I can see hurting their sales are the bags. They look great but you have to handle them fairly gingerly because the glue they use is not very strong. Always seem to have more than one bag that has leaked out in my wife's SUV, which drives her crazy

Re: Baystate Fertilizer at Lowes?
Doesn't seem to be anything here in CT either, at least at my local Lowes.
