Applying Urea
So when I apply my urea I typically spread it in the evening and then water it in the next morning or apply it the night before expected rain.
Is this ok or should I water it in immediately?

Re: Applying Urea
Urea isn't Plutonium. Yes, it's a little sensitive. A *LITTLE* sensitive. There is no need to read the Holy Scrolls before applying it. Many, many fertilizers contain Urea. Do what you would do with another fertilizer.

Re: Applying Urea
That is what I was thinking just wanted to confirm. My spreader was all messed up last application resulting in dark green stripping of my grass just wanted to confirm it wasn’t because I didn’t water it in immediately

Re: Applying Urea
Use common sense - how would watering cause striping in the lawn?

Why do you always have to point out the obvious thanks man!
Also my lawn is looking a little pale. I am applying 1#/1k of urea every two weeks per your recommend on my soil test. Is there any harm in upping it to 1.5# for a couple rounds?

Re: Applying Urea
In June, OK. Don't carry that into July - the lawn will want to slow down with the heat of Summer and forcing it to grow in July - mid-August is daring it to get a fungal attack.

Thanks I backed down on the urea is July and August last year I think I used a dose of slow release fertilizer but I can’t remember.

Re: Applying Urea
I back down in July and until August 15th, and then use Milorganite in mid-August to get the lawns woken up for the Fall Regimen around September 1st.

When you say back down do you mean no fertilizer?

Re: Applying Urea
Certainly no Urea during that period. Maybe half a dose of Milorganite or something natural/organic, depending on how things go.

Andy so I missed my last dose of urea (grass didn't need it, growing great and nice and green). I was hoping to get one last app down of fertilizer but it is July now and it is going to be upper 80's this week so don't think I am going to apply. I do have to put down my mid season dimension application which is usually 0-0-20 but should I try using the 19-0-7 slow release or just stick with the no nitrogen. I appreciate the input.

Re: Applying Urea
Do you have irrigation, and want the grass to keep going through the hot period?

Re: Applying Urea
I have irrigation and I would like to keep the color up and not go dormant but don’t want to cause fungus issues.

Re: Applying Urea
The grass is going to want to go to sleep, and you will be forcing it to stay awake. There is always some chance of fungal disease - it's a "you can't have your cake and eat it too" scenario. You have to make the call/decision...

Andy how late can I continue to apply the Urea every two weeks? I put down starter fertlizer two weeks ago for my overseed and it is coming in great and want to keep fertilizing to get the grass ready for the winter so I can have a good spring green up. Should I continue every two weeks until the last app in November or scale back to stop the growth?
Thanks for the feedback

Re: Applying Urea
Fertilizing grass that has not completed Sprout-and-Pout is not smart - it makes the grass blades look better at the expense of the roots, which struggle to keep up with the top growth. That often causes the winter kill to rise. It''ll look pretty this year and losses over the Winter will increase.

Ok I will hold off on fertilizing until the fall regime. Is one does enough for the winter prep or do you recommend more then one.

Thanks I will hold off on the fertilizer til Oct, just read your info on Sprout and Pout (informative as always).
