Triclopyr 61% mixing rates

I picked up some Triclopyr 4 and its a 61.6% solution. I'm spraying my FIL's lawn for clover and i'll admit, me posting this thread means I'm taking a bit of a shortcut vs reading/understanding the whole label......I've read a bit and it suggests 3-6 ounces per gallon......that seems stupid high to me?

Looking at weed b gon CCO (8%), I use an ounce per gallon for spot treatments and it works well.

Looking at that, I would think a 61% solution should be used at 1/8th the rate as above.......meaning 1 ounce for 8 gallons (.5 oz for a full 4 g backpack)?

Would you guys agree that i'm looking at this the right way? The label isn't too residential use focused. Should I go a little stronger? How high is too high?

Appreciate the help!

Not exactly the voice of experience here, but I recently used Hi-Yield's ~61% ester at 3/4 fluid oz per 1-1/2 gallon of water. It's clobbering clover, ground ivy, wild violet, chickweed, and what I now -think- is some variety of speedwell, maybe corn. I backed off to 1/2 fluid oz 12 days later for the second app (felt like I was pushing it).

I started a "Triclopyr" thread in the 101 forum that might be helpful as well.

It really is just so much easier to either read the whole label or search here first for your answers than it is to compose a post.

As Dargin noted, see the Triclopyr thread, specifically Re: Triclopyr

Read your label. Not being rude, just how it is. Nuances are important.

+1. Be aware that Triclopyr is used for killing stumps, etc, and that's at much higher rates than for lawn use. Make sure to read what the intended rates are for.

Thanks guys. No offense taken and I know better than to dodge the label. I was more trying to rely on math to support the 8% and 61% concentrations.

Clover killing starts today!

BLUEHANDMATT (one of my sons) is going to check the formula and get back to me, hopefully in the next hour. Do you have the Amine or Ester formulation?

BLUEHANDMATT says our formula uses a double-dilution. We add 2 oz of "Alligare Triclopyr 4" to 14 oz of water. That yields a 0ne-pint bottle that is essentially the same as CCO 8%. Then use that to dilute per the CCO label instructions.

Make sure to add a surfactant or Nu-Film.

That's actually my main use of triclopyr.

I use the high rate of 3/4 (0.75) oz of 61% to a gallon of water. My backpack sprayer is 4 gallons and I add 3 oz + NIS for a full fill.

Low rate is half of the high rate on my label.

I used the 3/4 oz per gallon gas well, same back pack situation (4g) and I added some surfactant.

Andy, how do I tell if it’s amine or ester? I have a feeling it’s the harsher one.

Things went well but a thunderstorm came out of no where 3 hours after I put it down. I’m hoping enough soaked in..... planning to hit it again in 2 weeks

I can't speak to how well the app will do, but that storm definitely came out of nowhere. The forecast was clear through to Tuesday. Hope it had time to soak in for ya.

I got 3 hours in..... I saw somewhere online someone saying that a study showed 90 min was what it needed to be effective...... who knows, I’ll see what it looks like in a week!

Ester or amine would be on the label. I would say you are good with 3 hours before the rain.
