Is Bullseye TF not being produced any longer? It was tops in the trials at Rutgers.

They have it at Burlingame and superseedstore online. Probably elsewhere too.

I did a search on the seed superstore site for it and nothing came up. Not even a listing for it. Are you saying you saw it in stock there recently?

Also, what is "Burlingame"?

Burlingham Seed is out of Oregon and they list it. I have a neighbor who has bought it from SSS in the past but maybe they are out.

The guys at Hogan says they cant get bullseye anymore.

That's the marketer/distributor.

According to the guys at Hogan, the closest current replacements for Bullseye are GTO, Hotrod, Hemi, and Firebird 2...which are also listed at Burlingham. I'm sorry to see it go, as well. My back lawn is composed of it and Firecracker, plus 3 KBG varieties. It sounded like the producing plants for Bullseye were aging, and the growers weren't getting enough seed off of them anymore.

The "current" Prime Time mix is

33.13% Hot Rod Tall Fescue
33.05% Firebird 2 Tall Fescue
32.90% Turbo RZ Tall Fescue

It used to be 1/3 Bullseye.

As per my post, a neighbor had purchased Bullseye from SSSin the past. I don’t recall exactly when that was but they did carry it in the past. Nothing more or nothing less.

I wonder why it was being phased out? Not producing enough seed?

Too bad. I wonder what the number is that makes a cultivar viable in terms of seed production?

Enough to make an independent seed grower in Oregon feel that he's making a living. If he felt he could make more growing turnips, then well you know what he's be growing...

I talked with them again today. I mentioned how I had seen the name of a new version of Bullseye in the latest NTEP preliminary results recently, and asked Stephen if he knew anything about it. He said that squares with what he had heard...that it's definitely in trials now, and as long as it makes it through them with good enough ratings, he would expect it to eventually be grown for seed production. It may be a "spreading" variety, also. But who knows how many years away from actual sale it might be.
