Does Tenacity Stunt KBG
Figured I'd start a separate title thread on the subject
Does Tenacity stunt / effect new/ young KBG seedlings ?
I know it can effect/kill new fescue......
Overseeded. Applied tenacity.
I might want to re-apply tenacity in about 6 weeks out from time of overseeding, but I'm thinking that will be roughly the time where the KBG has just started poking it's head on greenup.
I believe the label states after the 2nd mow or 4 weeks after emergence.
Anyhow, what has been your experience on spraying tenacity before this period.
Just stunted growth. No effect. Or some stunted, some young seedling kill, but most of the KBG fares fine ?

Re: Does Tenacity Stunt KBG
What rate did you use to use when you applied the Tenacity? Answer with the rate in oz/acre, please.

2 oz.
In former use of Tenacity on new KBG as well, I have seen it whiten some but it recovers fine.
Just not sure how much I can stunt it - as the weather slowly get closer towards old man winter

You'll find that Tenacity tends to whiten grass more on the first use more than on later applications. I have never seen it stunt KBG at a 2 oz/a rate. I often use it at 4 oz/a -- I call it a diagnostic dose, as it will whiten many undesirable grassy weeds. I have no idea what it does to Fine Fescue - I hate the stuff.

Re: Does Tenacity Stunt KBG
When I use Tenacity on FF that I don't want damaged, I never go over the 4 oz per acre rate (I hardly ever go over that rate, period), and I also try to use it without surfactant as a short duration pre-emergent. When I'm trying to intentionally damage FF, I use multiple applications of at least 4 oz per acre over a period of time. The 3 oz rate has been just fine. Last week, I had to spray at the 4 oz rate to go after Nimblewill. Most of the good grass in the area is FF in partial shade. It might thin it out after all of the applications, but that's better than having Nimblewill.

Whats the interval for that?
The normal rate is 4 oz/a every 10-14 days; often it is used much more frequently, even every 3-4 days at a 2 oz/a or 1 oz/a rate.
Would those more frequent applications cause KBG growth to be stunted?

Btw, 1 oz/A is off-label, though some have had success with that rate for some purposes. I would be concerned with promoting resistance, though.

Isn't using tenacity as a post emergent off-label?
So much of battling POA Annual with Tenacity is off label or based on an old study when it first came out.
I'm not sure I'll ever get the hang of it, and I always have wondered if it slows down the spread of KBG. But as there isn't anything better I keep the battle going.

No. Tenacity is intended mostly a post-emergent.northeastlawn wrote: ↑September 7th, 2019, 8:39 pmIsn't using tenacity as a post emergent off-label?
For Poa annua though, yes, it's sort of off-label as a post-emergent. There are threads on this topic floating around here that explain it better.

So you've clearly never read the label. It's a quick enough read. Check it out sometime.northeastlawn wrote: ↑September 7th, 2019, 8:39 pmIsn't using tenacity as a post emergent off-label?

Re: Does Tenacity Stunt KBG
True - don't TLDR the Tenacity label. There is a lot of good info on it.
There are also numerous studies that have been done by the golf and sports field people, and they have fine-tuned ways that Tenacity can be used that go beyond the label instructions. While technically off-label, they provide a wealth of information about maximizing the effectiveness of the product.
