Have a 1 acre lot has been leveled, all dirt sprayed with roundup 2 weeks ago. Haven't gotten any soil testing done have not put any fertilizer on it. Will not be able to water at all. Wondering if I should go ahead and seed with tttf and starter fert or should I wait till February and do a dormant seeding I am in southeastern Indiana going to be in the 90s this week.. Thank's for any input...

Oh man Jump, that's a toughy for me.

Not being able to water the acre is the biggest kicker. Are you worried about wasting seed?

I'd still get the grass seed down and covered and worked into the soil if you can. I'd also pray for some rains to germinate some this fall but if not, spring rains might sprout the seed in spring. I'm not good with nutrients so I don't know if I'd apply the starter. If the seed doesn't germinate yet, it might all be washed through by the time it sprouts.

Yea we haven't had much rain the guy @ site 1 told me today he would do it in Feb let the heave of the soil pull the seed into the soil. Said if it rained on it a little and didn't rain again for awhile it would die. It's not like I will be using the acre for anything but it is right on the main road view it is surround by corn fields on 2 sides and trees down a line between the properties...…………...

Dormant Seeding isn't always a success, and many people are disappointed by the results.

I would drop seed now and if you like PR mix it in. PR wont do as well over the summer without irrigation but will establish easier. Touch it up with follow up seed in a few weeks or again in the spring.

Even if you can water it just a little for 3 or 4 days PR will do better.

We have been getting light, infrequent rain here at least. Good for you if you rely on natural rainfall.

Seems like the rain never hits us couple sprinkles then its gone lol took a ride down the road and the grass people have in there pastures looks pretty good from a distance and I know there is no way they watered it. I doin't need anything great wondering what it is that they grow thinking maybe ky 31 I know a lot of people doint like ky 31 but thinking maybe I should just plant it since I woint be able to water it. My son had it at his old place and he was always cutting it and never watered it...…..

Look for some posts by flyin low. Did a Reno on large acres using natural rainfall in east central Indiana.

He seeded late when it stays wetter and the precipitation is more persistent, like mid September.

Pick a grass you like the looks of and go with it. I personally dont like the aesthetics of KY31 at all.

Well looks like mother nature will get to make my decision for me no rain in the forecast for next 7 days so I doint see any sense in putting down the seed this week.

Pretty mild late summer/fall weather her. Heh, I don't have irrigation on the strip so even watering it daily seems a chore with a hose.

Man, I can't imagine the timing of seeding and aligning it with mother nature on 1A. I suppose it can be like -amdending the soil- and it's just a yearly continual process on seed/overseen till it's thick enough
