Lime application / fertilization
Trying out the aggressive fall fertilization with urea this season. I'm due for a lime application of 9lb/1000K. and know you need to space out lime apps from fertilization, but how long should I wait....7 days...10...14???
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Lime application / fertilization
I don’t go by days I go by rain/water and after about an inch of water.
Personally I’d skip a fertiliser app and get the lime down as getting your soil right is more important that missing a single app of N.

The water is what helps the lime react with the soil.
Even on lime websites they mention watering it in.

Yes, I have irrigation and the lime app will be watered in. I was just wondering about timing for the lime to react with the soil before my next N and iron app.

Re: Lime application / fertilization
It's not about how long it takes the Lime to react with the soil doing its job. If the Lime is still at the top of the soil when anything Urea-based is applied, the Nitrogen in the Urea may gas-off to the atmosphere to some degree. Two weeks is typically enough.
About Lime - cheap ground limestone or pellets can take 12-14 months to fully integrate with the soil. The newer technologies in Lime require much less time to incorporate, and at lower application rates. Products like Encap, Mag-I-Cal, SoluCal and Sta-Green are in that class, and can incorporate in 5-8 weeks. The lower application rates mean that the cost per 1000 sq ft is actually lower than the "cheap" products.

Re: Lime application / fertilization
Andy,
Thank you for explaining how the lime application can react with Urea. I enjoy learning why you recommend to space out certain products.
