Thinking of experimenting with Serenade/Nu-Film for snow mold

Post by Green » October 29th, 2019, 9:02 pm

I'm considering doing a late Fall (sometime between mid December and Christmas, probably) application of Serenade with Nu-Film added. I want to see if it helps with snow mold and/or Winter desiccation.

Update: It's been very warm the past few weeks since I sprayed, until today. Soil temps had been up into the low 40s consistently. I was a bit concerned that the anti-transpiration aspect of the Nu-Film might pose a problem since transpiration is already very low this time of year, and it's a necessary thing for the grass to regulate itself. But I'm not seeing any signs of issues. I'm also not seeing a lot of signs that it really helped the grass keep its color longer, either...once the cold hit last night again, the back lawn (which doesn't get much sun) lost a lot of color, just in one day.

Catching up on posts and came across this one. Turns out that the good news is that the weather pattern here in Southern New Hampshire resulted in the lawn becoming snow-free a few times over the winter, and a rapid early melt in March meant that I basically have no snow mold anywhere in the lawn! I didn't do anything special to prevent snow mold, other than mow the grass quite low in the fall to prevent excessive matting down.

Sometimes, fortuitous weather is our best friend for lawn care!
