Walked the lawn to see if the chipmunk holes I filled a few days ago have remained filled. So far, so good, although I also spotted a hole that I think I missed filling previously (hopefully I just missed it before and it isn't a new one!)
ken-n-nancy We have a neighbor who feeds the darn things. They are everywhere here!!! :banghead:
BTW Beautiful lawn.
I actually mowed and hand pulled some weeds.
Lots of rain yesterday.
Rain gauge showed 2.2" more since a few days ago.

Hey fun4me2..Just curious. You say you are in lower Pioneer valley. I was born and raised in Winsted Ct. Torrington area. We moved when I was 11. What I remember from the 50's and early 60's it is a beautiful area of Ct. Lots of woods and lakes etc. Most of our days were spent playing in those woods. GREAT MEMORIES

I was scheduled to mow today, but by the time I was ready to do so, it was the hottest part of the day, so I decided I would wait for tomorrow.

However, I did check to see if the chipmunk holes I had filled in a couple days ago remained clear. Unfortunately, a few of them have been dug back out again. I guess there's still more chipmunk removals to do before being able to claim victory for even a few days...

I finally activated the irrigation system today. I am so behind this year!

I raised my HOC to 4" and mowed yesterday. Even though we are in a drought (2.28" of rain since June 1st) my 10 month old kbg is very happy. The diy irrigation system helps but I think the kbg just likes this hot and sunny weather. My backyard PR which gets treated mostly the same looks like crap by comparison. It's stalky, thin, growing more slowly and the color is not great. Today's plan is to apply serenade because we have increasing heat and humidity in the forecast.

I'm a day behind watering because yesterday was supposed to be 80% chance of a half inch or so of rain, and nothing materialized.

Also: Just changed my experience level from "some experience" to "experienced". It's been nearly 10 years now (not quite as long on this site as in real life) and I feel like I've learned a thing or two and experimented quite a bit.

Lawn is looking pretty good. About the best it has looked so far this year. I've found that our lawn tends to peak around July 1-10 in most years.
Lawn is looking very good Ken-n-nancy, gotta love Bewitched!

Got up early, sprayed gramacide and finished about ten minutes before it rained. It's supposed to be rainfast after an hour.

Watered this morning after applying SLS. Put down just under a 1/4" of peatmoss (2nd 1/4" this year) just before sunset. Still hoping to get an inch down this year.

Walked the lawn today after 1+5/8" of rain last night to figure out what lawn work should be done today. Today would be a normal "mowing day" for us, being four days after the prior mowing. Seems to me that it has grown less than usual with the 85F-95F daytime highs we've had lately, but it's definitely still growing and would benefit from being mowed even though it isn't quite as long as it usually is before mowing.

The grass is looking good for the second half of July. Fungicide treatments seem to have kept disease at bay. There are a few dormant spots along the driveway edge where the elevated heat has been too much. On the opposite side of the driveway, the KBG is doing fine, but most of the fine fescue in the mix has gone dormant, so there's a fair bit of brown mixed in everywhere.

Still not sure if we should renovate the "opposite side of driveway" area (last photo) this fall -- we have everything on hand, but would need to pull the trigger on spraying glyphosate pretty soon. I'm concerned that the dormant fine fescue might not succumb to glyphosate if in summer dormancy, but that's never been a problem for us before, so we probably shouldn't be worried about it now, either...

Wasn't able to mow the lawn yesterday due to early afternoon rain, which continued on and off until after sunset.

Walked the lawn this morning and it definitely needs mowing now. Dumped 3/4" of water out of the rain gauge from yesterday. Updated our lawn log to shift turning the irrigation system back on out one more day due to the received rain.

Hoping the lawn dries out enough to enable mowing it late this morning.

Watered the baby grass by the creek and the new landscaping in back. No rain in weeks... so watering 3/4 of an acre off my well is getting worrisome.

Mowed the sod for the first time (3 weeks in) and finally had a nice long soaking rain overnight. Desperately needed the rain...

It's a beautiful Summer day here near West Point, filled with the sounds of later Summer: artillery practice. Nothing says Summer like the firing of large-scale artillery. WHUMP !!!

There controller for my sprinkler system doesn't seem to be working.

In think I'm going to finally give up and only try to keep the native grasses alive. I spot watered because I dormant seeded some blue grama and I'm not sure if it will survive. Si ni used the hose and poured water on areas that needed it.

Put down a final 2 month dose of prodiamine.
1/2 app of milo with epsom. 3lbs iron.

Scattered another couple cubic feet of peat. Still hoping to hit my goal of getting a whole inch down this year.

Sprayed copper sulfate and neem on the lilac, lilies, roses, amaranth, and coleus.
