Seed Cultivars at the Big Box

Post by mobiledynamics » January 28th, 2020, 7:26 pm

Off topic....I know seed mixes are regional at the big box store. Getting spring fever here so browsing the aisles.
The same -blend- name in what appears similar date batches (maybe off by 2 months), the blend is different in 7lb bag versus 3lb.

I can understand how corporate dictates blend changes by the -annual year-, but can the the blend be different in every batch , literally .

Sometimes it can be due to retests. Law requires that all seed being sold is in date based on the state law. So, companies supply stick-on labels when the lot is retested to make sure it's still good.

By the way, sometimes name-brand seed in stores does contain the latest and greatest cultivars...I recently saw some 2019 dated Scotts seed in a local store with both "Apple 3GL" and "Fastball 3 GL" PR in it, for example.
