Bare spots in spring

Post by starpartyguy » March 5th, 2020, 10:32 am

After killing some clover patches with t-zone last year, I’m left with 3 bare spots 2 feet wide.

I want to use prodiamine but then I can’t seed. I heard Tenacity can be used when seeding.

Could I seed and apply Tenacity to the spots(they are all close to each other), then cover with a tarp while spreading prodiamine?

12k of TTTF. And looks pretty good compared to last year.

Thanks,

Yup - that should work. Leave a little margin for error.

I think your plan sounds okay unless you are applying seed all over instead of just the bare spots.

Prodiamine can be applied to the good areas.

Tenacity to the spots receiving seed.

I'd reapply prodiamine to the bare areas after germination/establishment.

Might have another user double check me though.

Thanks. Soil temps are bouncing around because we're getting mid 60's during the day but mid 20's at night. Average soil temp is 46 degrees over 5 days. My original plan was to start work around first weekend in April. I am going to collect soil to send to Logan's for a test this weekend.

I think I'll use some green marking paint to mark the areas I covered and come back with the prodiamine after germination.

You can apply Tenacity at seeding and it will carry you for ~30 days depending on dose. You may want another dose depending on how fast the seed is germinating/establishing. Once established, you can then apply a traditional pre-emergent (with Tall Fescue you should be OK without needing a second Tenacity dose). Just pay attention to Tenacity total dose if you are planning on a fall seeding and leave yourself some for the fall.
