Grass clippings as seed cover?

Anyone ever use grass clippings as a seed cover? If so. Did it work well?

Grass Type: Western, Streambank, Crested wheatgrass in front (with blue grama added in the heckstrips), sheep fescue in back; strawberry clovetr in both

I don't think I'd suggest that approach. Head clippings have a tendency to mat up.
