KBG Shallow in Year 1

Post by mobiledynamics » June 10th, 2020, 7:19 pm

Reseeded a bare spot last fall. Is KBG root development slow in it's 1st growing season. The reseeded spot , seems to pull up easily. Was pretty dense before I did the 1st cutting and subsequent mows. As it got a bit thinner, I decided to check out how well it's in the soil. It seems to pull up -easily- if I pull hard enough

I would think the roots would be fine if it's already survived a winter. Is it thinner than the pre-existing grass? It may have been getting more sunlight during the fall and winter, and is now reacting to less light once the trees leafed out. (Note - pure speculation on that last statement)

Or - you have a dull blade, or are cutting too low, so your first mows tore out a lot of the seedlings rather than cut them.

How do you irrigate it? Short, frequent watering encourages short root growth, as the roots go where the water is.

So far, have dragged a hose out for it once only. Mother Nature is taking care of this...it's the hellstrip on the sidewalk.

Pardon me for asking, but (best Dr. Phil tone) "how's that working out for you?"

That strip is the hottest spot on your lawn.
