Glypho Orchard grass before seeding

Post by Dargin » August 7th, 2020, 4:23 pm

I Identified some orchard grass in a friend's lawn.

He's looking to do some seeding soon. With an expected seeding date of August 30th (would be earlier if we could) do I still have enough time to kill the this stuff?

Also, I've seen a bunch of images showing the results of hand painting; maybe I've just seen the work of unskilled hands (like mine) but they make me think it would be just as well to spot spray close up with a cone tip. Does this seem like an ok way to go about it?

My experience with glyphosate is pretty much limited to cracks in walkways. I'm scanning through the glypho threads. Appreciate any input. Thanks.

I've been spraying glyphosphate on portions of my lawn about once a week for a month. I had about every possible crappy grass variety and weed type possible. Spray it now with a spreader/ sticker and it will die within a week. You might need to hit it again to completely kill it. The only thing that wants to keep coming back to life for me is the poa trivialis.

I have painted before but I dont think I would do it again. I would prefer to try to dribble the RU out of the sprayer.

Thanks guys. I practiced a little today with water. I think I can keep the damage to a minimum. I guess my main concern now is that I hit all of it on the first round. I have Mark-it-Blue. I've only tried it a couple times, as label directed, and it was never really dark enough to help. Could it potentially hurt the application to go heavier with the dye?

I dont believe extra dye is a problem.

Thanks, man. I used 4oz of the dye, could see things fine.
I just sprayed today. I think it went alright. Perfect conditions, very light breeze. Still a bit nerve wracking...hehe.

I actually went with the dribble method. I couldn't imagine it coating the leaf better than a mist, but it looked like excellent coverage to me. I had him let it grow out for a week so there was plenty of leaf to coat. Will be hitting it again in 7 days.

Thanks again for the help guys.
Maybe I'll post a pic of the carnage, if I can bear it. :D
