Question on rolling in grass seed

Post by mdxers » August 8th, 2020, 12:55 pm

Not sure if I should have put this in my renovations page or not. Anyone have trouble with a lot of seed sticking to the steel drum roller? (Assuming those who have rolled their seed)? I was wondering if I could put down my seed blanket, then roll over top of the blanket to press the seed into the soil? Thanks!

You certainly can put down the seed blanket first if you wish, it won't impact the process. Seed doesn't really need to be rolled in the first place, actually, so any rolling you do will help.
Sticking is natural if the roller, seed, or soil is damp. Unfortunately, there's no easy way around that, and greasing, oiling, or otherwise rendering the roller slick is not recommended.
