Overseeding area impacted by fungus

Post by Pway » August 12th, 2020, 9:31 am

In spite of several preventative applications of azoxystrobin and propacanizol, and a curative application, I have areas that were hit hard by fungus. My tentative plan is to rake these areas, put seed down, and top with peat moss. Is there anything else I should do given the fungal outbreak? I’m not sure if the fungus was summer patch or maybe some sort of pythium rot root. Thanks.

Did the grass actually die or did the blades just go brown?

You can treat areas with fungus with no issues even on an overseed.

Thank you for the guidance regarding no issues with an overseed. I believe that some spots hD grass actually die as there was some black and greasy matter at the roots (pythium root rot?). I will probably send a sample to get a positive ID. Thanks again, I’ll post how the overseed goes.

Just remember that the frequent watering during germination won't help with the fungus. I guess thats the trade off and the problems of a northern mix.

With KBG the dead spots fill in, in a mix the frequent watering might cause more disease.

Since your betting the lawn won't come back anyway, the frequent watering will help the new seed.

Azoxystrobin and Propiconazole won’t touch pythium.
