Help, don’t know what happened or how to fix
Hi, new to forum. Moved into new home 3 years ago. Put in perimeter French drains in April bc we we’re getting g all neighbors gutter runoff. Now this happened to our lawn. Is it a fungus? Is it dead? I don’t know what to do. I called our fertilizer spraying company and they said it was bc if heat, which I don’t buy ? I’m in Chicago and wanted to know if it will come back next year?

Some closer-up shots, preferably in overcast weather (which you seem to have) would help a bit. Let's see some edge of bad area grass, some "dead" grass, and some decent grass just over the line. Plus a shot of "good" grass.

I wonder if the drains are working so well that water that may have permeated the soil previously is now drained away?

Are those the areas that were reseeded after the drain was installed? If so, when was that? And what kind if seed?
Close up pictures would help a lot.

Is that a hill sloped towards your house? What is near the fence or on your fence line that water has to go through getting to your lawn?
Whatever it is it appears to be following your the water. Take some pics of damaged blades and show any lesions or spots then show some pics of “good” blades just outside the bad area.
Pythium is know to follow water/drain lines similar to your situation.
That or the water is getting contaminated by something like old concrete and killing the grass. Did your neighbor spray anything recently in their yard?

Re: Help, don’t know what happened or how to fix
Sorry guys, I never received a notification that anyone replied to my post. I haven’t reseeded anything but where I filled in the French drain (right behind swing set) last week I did aerate the entire yard that’s why it looks dug up a little. Also the healthy grass down below was new sod we laid around April when we did the French drains. Water had been collecting there and it had to be dug up to drain correctly. I took a peek at my neighbors yard behind me and he has some weeds, but nothing like this. Weather here has cooled significantly and it’s been raining the last week too. Here are some additional pictures that maybe can help. Any advice is appreciated.
