No organic grains/urea near me
I've been searching for the past few days and months looking for a feed store near me. However, the stores I found doesn't sell them. I'm looking for soybean meal, corn glutten meal, urea near 60142 zipcode with no luck. Is anyone here from Illinois and use organic grains for their lawns? Where did you buy yours?

They have urea! I created an account but requires their approval. It is required to see the price. Hopefully, I'll get a response soon.

Great !! If you're going to follow the Fall Nitrogen Regimens, then don't let them talk you into slow-release Urea (they'll try!!) .

Re: No organic grains/urea near me
Thanks Andy!
SiteOne hasn't approved my account request yet. I still can't see the price. I used to pay $14-$17 at a feed store in Woodstock. Unfortunately, their business because of financial issues caused by the pandemic.

Re: No organic grains/urea near me
I contacted them directly just now. Price is $23+tax per 50lb bag. She also told me I can go to the store, buy few bags without registering. Price is a bit high but there are no other stores I know that sells them.
I will search our Fall Nitrogen Regimens article and start reading it.

Unless you have a detailed question, I spend time each year updating the first posting to act as a summary of the postings after that...

Re: No organic grains/urea near me
I found your Fall Nitrogen Regimens thread. I'll be applying 1 lbs /1k sqft of urea once a week. What are your thoughts on dissolving a pound of urea and using a hose-end sprayer to spray it? If it's a bad idea, I won't do it.
If spreading it via a broadcast spreader, should I water it right away?
Here's the urea I got today at SiteOne.
Thanks!

Re: No organic grains/urea near me
Bad idea. When nutrients are dissolved into water and applied to the foliage, only a small fraction of the amount that can be applied to the soil is used. The goal of the Fall Nitrogen Regimen is to get the grass and roots healthy and thick, and then to store a lot of Nitrogen in the plant roots for use in the Spring.
Since you will be applying Nitrogen every 7 days, I recommend watering the Urea in as soon as possible, for three reasons: (1) Urea can gas-off causing some loss of Nitrogen, (2) there is some chance that the Nitrogen prills will melt due to morning dew and cause local burning, and (3) if it isn't watered in and doesn't rain, it will not be processed into the soil and available to the grass until it is watered in. This could mean that the next application would be made shortly after the last one gets into the soil. The whole idea of the regimen is to apply safe amounts of the Urea often and on a fixed timing.
I'm a believer that Urea should be watered in, shortly after application, for this regimen.
