Where is the Forsythia Line?
It's time to start watching the Forsythia Line move north, so that all can use it for Pre-M applications. The line moves north at approx 25 miles a day.

4" soil temps in eastern Iowa, 8mi north of I-80 are still 36°F. It'll be a while for us.

Re: Where is the Forsythia Line?
Got my GDD tracker notification this morning that the timing is "Optimum" but the forsythia in my neighborhood in Central NJ have not yet bloomed. Waiting from the plants to tell me, not the email. Just hoping the rain works in my favor once the window opens.

Re: Where is the Forsythia Line?
Saw on with a few yellows on it up here in Eastern CT. They were in full sun however and it has been in the 60's and 70's for a week or so. Mine in my yard aren't quite there yet. Probably going to throw down in the next 5-7 days.

Re: Where is the Forsythia Line?
Same here bauer time..hoping the rain helps also. If not, I'll just fire up the sprinkler.......supposed to get some rain the next few days. We'll see if they open!bauer time wrote: ↑March 23rd, 2021, 7:25 amGot my GDD tracker notification this morning that the timing is "Optimum" but the forsythia in my neighborhood in Central NJ have not yet bloomed. Saw forsythia blooms this morning here near Annapolis, MD.
Planning on applying preemergent (Dimension) on Thursday (in between the rains tomorrow Wed. and Friday), doesn't look like there's going to be any rain for the next week after Friday.

Re: Where is the Forsythia Line?
I saw one bush in bloom today, about 5 miles North of New Haven, CT. No others I saw were in bloom or even close, just this one anomaly.

Re: Where is the Forsythia Line?
Central NJ is now in bloom. I'm a little worn down from my second shot yesterday, but I'm going to try to drop Pre-M today because we have rain coming all day tomorrow.

Re: Where is the Forsythia Line?
In my part of Central Jersey, Forsythia is simply budding out. Bloom is still a few days to a week off.
I think this is why the Forsythia is a better gauge than soil temperature web site predictions. The Forsythia results show specific local conditions.

Re: Where is the Forsythia Line?
Agreed turf_toes, mine have budded out and a bunch have opened this morning. Going to put my Pre M down today...we are supposed to get a soaker tomorrow. The timing is close enough for me.

Re: Where is the Forsythia Line?
Yeah, I'm sure it varies around the state. I'm lucky enough to have a neighbor with a large forsythia bush so I just use theirs as my gauge.

The forsythia in my yard that has a southern exposure is about 60%-70% in bloom here in central Jersey.

Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania in bloom! They probably were earlier, but I barely leave the house any more what with all the viruses floating around...
