Fertilizer for the year!

Post by PSU4ME » March 17th, 2021, 5:17 pm

Just made the trek to Quincy, 70 bags of baystate locked and loaded! Definitely tired from all the work but it’s good to be thinking lawn again!

That is one big pile of crap.

You are going to need a bigger...truck.

Haha I said the same. Maxed out what the trailer and truck “says” it can handle in terms of weight so I’ll be set for the year considering I do urea in the fall. Lawn is in its 4th year so I’m really hoping for some good fill in and resistance to disease/drought

You can use that on the new grapes, too. It's been kilned at 1200 C, it's perfectly safe. But I understand the squick factor if you'd rather not.

And yes, by year 4 you should be seeing major increases in resistance and drought. Although that's always a little...disappointing...in terms of drought for all of us. Alas.

If I remember correctly last year they did not sell to individuals, just stores right? Happy to see you got some! Was there a minimum?

I bought winter of 2019 so I didn’t get any for the 2020 season but I know there were “issues”. This year, I’ve been asking Carl since Nov about when he’d have stock, just now they have it back. Minimum is a pallet and you gotta pay for it online before you go. Above a pallet you can do less (I did 50+20). I like to buy in the off-season so I do to have to worry about stock.

How much do they feed Carl to get him to produce all that? Is he like Amberlynn Reid?

(There's a hole in the Internet you don't want to go down, trust me).

Thanks for sharing the news regarding the Bay State Fertilizer. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the 50-bag minimum. We no longer have our Ford Expedition, in which I could put 50 bags of BSF by folding down the rear seats and putting a half-dozen in the front passenger seat. I don't even think we have sufficient capacity between both of our vehicles (a Ford Escape and a Ford Focus) to carry 2000# of cargo if we drive both of our vehicles down to make a pickup. I was hoping that smaller orders would be a possibility this year, but it sounds like not...

I am in the same boat, I have a pickup and used to get around around 25 bags, which included family and a few neighbors, but 50 bags is crazy.

Two guys from work who I told about this meet at Quincy last year and just loaded up the 50 bags into two trucks.

Maybe we have to start doing a Quincy meet ups to get around the 50 bag limit. I don't see why they would care how many vehicles the ballot is getting loaded into.

I am all set for this year, the guys from work gave me 8 bags for a finders fee :-)

They were using milo from Walmart before I told them about BSF and were overjoyed when they reopened after the COVID closure.

My family ended up buying locally for about $10 a bag, which isn't horrible if you only use two bags a month.

Next year I am going to have to arrange something with some people with pickups and split a pallet.

Is the savings big enough to rent a bigger truck, step van, etc from uhaul?

Or maybe a flatbed trailer?

I mean $3.50 a bag is quite the savings if you use a lot through the year so it all depends on what the cost of the truck is.

I'm in NH just outside of Concord if you are interested in a road trip to split a pallet!

I can get a pallet in my Silverado. Prior to departure from the plant, I break down the pallet and spread it out in the bed. Last year I did not make the trek from Maine for obvious reasons.

I just email looking to get 62 bags and find out how they were scheduling pickups and was told they are currently sold out.

How did scheduling a pickup work for those of you who have gone this year?

I text Carl to make sure he’s got stock then you pay for it through their new, mildly shady, website.

I “assume” that they earmark paid for pallets. Show up (I also let Carl know I’m coming), call the number, give your receipt number and load up!
