Spring Lawn Care / Northern Virginia

Post by vangaal » April 11th, 2021, 6:53 pm

Hi All,

I’m excited, like many of you, to get back outside! I live in the northern VA area just outside of Washington DC. I need help with spring lawn care/maintenance as I hope to maintain a healthy lawn.

What should I do about the bare patches seen in the pictures?

What other steps should I take? Crabgrass preventer, fertilizer?

Thank you!

For now, just wait--feeding or doing much in spring other than let the lawn do its thing (particularly in areas further south) isn't a great idea. Take care of weeds, irrigate if necessary, mow. That covers it.

Mow high, irrigate deeply and rarely, and feed it on Memorial Day.
