Ecoscraps fertilizer? No Milorganite

There seems to be a complete shortage of milorganite by me.
HD & Lowe's have this Ecoscraps fertilizer.
I've never heard of it before, is it any good?
I'm assuming that if it is good, there would be no "limit" on the amount to put down since it's organic?

I can’t comment on Ecoscraps, but try the ace hardware across the border in Easton, PA (assuming your location is accurate). Looks like they have Milo in stock based on the website.

No one can answer that without knowing what’s in the bag.

Milo is considered organic by many folks. But it contains some fast release nitrogen too.

If it’s a pure grain type product, you’re probably safe to apply at a high rate. But you need to tell us what’s in the bag before anyone can give an informed opinion.

I am in Easton, Pa and the ACE did not have Milorganite last week when I ordered as I had to go to Broadheadsville. Wish I had waited as they appear to have it now.

It'll go in and out of stock in spring. The HD in Bethlehem has it right now, along with the HD at the Lehigh Valley Mall, according to the web site. I haven't stopped by either recently.

Looking at the Ecoscraps, I'm fine with it as a substitute. At 4-2-0, it's very comparable, and has less fast release N. Iron's the same. If you want to use it and the price is the same, go for it. It's cool--just slightly lower nitrogen overall and you'll need to use more.

I usually recommend using Milo at above the bag rate because bag rate applies around 0.8 pounds N per thousand square feet. Target would be about 1.0 N normally. So you'd want 1.0/0.8, or 1.25 times bag rate. For fall at least; bag rate is just fine for spring when grass isn't that hungry anyway.

Yes, some part of Milo is fast release, but less than half. You could certainly double Milo apps without risk of burn (it would still be under 1.0 pounds N fast release). The risk would just barely start in hot weather at 2.5 times normal application rates.

I certainly wouldn't do that even at the best of times, however.

Another option might be OceanGro out of New Jersey. It's a Milo type fertilizer. Their website lists the locations where it's available.

I never think of Ace Hardware. I went yesterday and got 4 bags.

It looks like it's made from organic food matter and recycled waste products.

As for OceanGro, it's on the other side of the state of NJ for me. Probably an hour and 1/2 drive for me each way.

It's essentially Scotts' version of Milorganite. Technically, it was started by a small company, which was then purchased, and then acquired by a subsidiary of Scotts. I used it last Fall. It's roughly equivalent to Milorganite, et. al.

If you have a Menard's nearby, they now sell their version of Milorganite for $8.99 - the ubiquitous 11% rebate. Labels seem to be similar if not identical.
