Curious about Rye grass and Trivialis
Regarding Rye grass and it's being allelopathic. As an observation I can't remember reading a thread where someone with a Rye grass monostand is fighting Trivialis. Will Rye grass defeat Trivialis? Would it be possible to do a rye grass renovation for several years , and then another renovation to KBG down the road, using the Rye to defeat Trivialis? Pipe dream?
I had a Rye lawn with a 125 year old home. The lawn had never been taken care of and was basically weed free.

I have asked similar questions, but after a lot of thought I came to the conclusion that there are too many possible reasons why that "seems to be true". In a monostand or great-mix KBG lawn, the darkness and even makes Triv stand out like a sore thumb. If PR were the answer, I would strongly expect the sports field crowd to have figured it out by now.

As far as allelopathy goes, I've come to the conclusion that it follows a law similar to Murphy's. "It's allelopathic until you need it to be."

I found a technical report that said commercial perennial rye growers have big problems wit trivialis. It mentioned about 20 herbicides they use for suppression. None of which are very effective.

My backyard is PR PhD blend... I can tell you that there is definitely Poa Trivialis here and there.
