Mold from berries

Post by NcReed » June 13th, 2021, 9:28 pm

I have a mulberry tree on my property line that drops a ton of mulberries. They are starting to grow mold on the ground in an area that doesn't get much sun. Is there an easy way to get rid of the mold and berries or am I resigned to raking and shoveling them up?

Rake and shovel, I'm afraid. Anything you'd use would cause more damage to natural fungal populations than it's worth. That mold is natural decay fungi trying its darndest to break the berries down and feed on them.

Like anything else, they're organic matter. If you're comfortable simply spreading them around the lawn and letting them decay, you can do that. Of course, with children, dogs, or shoes you leave on in the house, that could get messy.
