Anyone else done with "the milo" for the summer?

Post by northeastlawn » June 29th, 2021, 4:47 pm

Anyone else "stepping away" from the milo for the year? :-)

We have 3 days of 90deg, maybe some rain on the way, then mid 80's all next week.

I am thinking I'm all done with the fertilizer and just focusing on keeping the lawn alive for the rest of the summer.

It seems like two years in a row I am done with the BSF (Milo) early and putting down SOP all by itself.

I'll keep the proactive serenade and companion apps going; along with BLSC and BLKH whenever I see a big storm come through, but lawn season switched over really fast this year.

Except for one very small spot where I'm watering to keep it constantly damp and encouraging spreading (it's essentially blank) and gently feeding every week, yep. I'm off all foods for the lawn until August 10th or so.

(In August, I use soybean meal; no fast release, if it doesn't rain, there's no decay, and zero chance of burn at normal rates regardless of the state of rainfall).

Yup.

We've also been in the abnormally hot/dry pattern for this summer for most of June, with a record-setting number of days hitting the 90s (I think ... it has been 12 days). May was above-normal rain and temps, but not as extreme for temps (70s and 80s, mostly, which is above normal but was really a nice month for us).

June has been brutal for many lawns here in the Twin Cities. Nothing more that mowing and watering until sometime in mid- to late-August, I reckon.

Also in the Twin Cities. It's been soooooo bad. Haven't dropped anything since may and probably won't until labor day.

I just put down my July Milo and just plan to water. It looks like PA returns to normal summer temps later this week, so we'll see what happens.

I usually do my last slow release application of the year (Ocean-Gro for me) right before 4th of July. So I dropped that last week and I will be done with fertilizer until September when I will switch to synthetic.

Morpheus, I know we're relativity close, where do you get your soybean meal?

Hey, Bill! Albright's Mill, Kempton, PA. For you, about 1.5 hour round trip what with road construction at its worst. Probably a lot less.

I've never tried to look closer to home because I'm a lot closer, and the prices are fantastic (seriously, fifty pounds of urea for $15? Soy about the same? Two trips a season see me clear). There's probably something in New Jersey, not too far off, though.
