Dethatch in July?
I have many areas of dead grass and thatch in my garden. Some are from areas of invasive grasses that Tenacity killed off (bent grass etc), others are mats of stolons from POA Triv. Is it best to leave this in place through the hot months, or should I dethatch now? Thanks.

Re: Dethatch in July?
You should dethatch your cool-season lawn in any month that ends in Z
That’s to say, never.
Tenacity doesn’t kill Triv. It might be dormant; but it likely isn’t dead.
Dethatching will multiply you triv problem next year.

I am curious. You say you have 'dead grass and thatch' in your garden, because you sprayed Tenacity. Is this your vegetable garden or flower garden?

Re: Dethatch in July?
Apologies, by 'garden' i meant 'lawn'.
Re the Triv, Tenacity possibly slowed it down but it was the recent heat that stopped it growing. In the areas where I had/ have Triv, there are mats of brown stolons(?) covering the soil and no grass blades from the plant. Is there nothing to be gained from ripping this out with a rake? Is this a root structure that the plant uses again later in the season, or does it not work like that?

Regardless, if the OP has triv, dethatching (he should have written rototilling if this is about his garden beds. He certainly doesn’t have thatch in a gardenbed), is never a good idea.

Bazilbrush You risk transplanting the Trivialis by moving it around. It will come back where the stolons are, but if you have a plan ahead of time, you will have upper hand next time around.
