Round up Extended control accident

Post by Brian M » July 25th, 2021, 10:05 pm

I am helping my father with an over seed this fall. I recently told him to go ahead and spray some round up on heavy weed areas. Well, he used round up extended control. He did not do a blanket spray. And did not use too too much. He said he just kind of walked around in circles lol. So my question is what do I do now? Can I wait and see what dies, maybe use a roto till just in those areas to break up the round up? Or just over seed as planned, and spot seed in spring where it doesn’t come up?

Thanks for any advice

Oops. I'd probably just overseed and then spot seed whatever doesn't come up, if it wasn't too extensive a spray. Roto tilling is likely to cause too much of an issue anyway, what with remixing the soil, and it's going to be hard to tell what died from one thing as opposed to another. A bit of spot aeration with a tined fork might not be taken amiss, though.

I know this all too well as I did this last year by mistake!! I killed my entire front lawn. For mine, I aggressively raked what it killed (which was pretty much all of it) and then I spread a mix of topsoil and compost on it and re-seeded. Had decent recovery last fall, but it is just starting to get back to where it was. Unless you strip the topsoil off and put new down, it isn't going to be an easy road. You could try rototilling it to mix with other materials, but not sure if the result will be that great.
