I raised the deck of the Toro Super Recycler to 3.75" for tonights mow in preparation for the impending doom of heat this week.
It cuts nicer at 3.25", but we're going into survival mode.

Mowed the lawn again today. It turned out to be the 10th mowing so far in 2022. Currently it seems that the front lawn wants to be mowed every four days. Seeing some significant drought stress in the lawn, so I guess it's time to run the irrigation system. Up to this point, it has been sufficiently rainy and cool that I haven't needed to water the lawn, but it's now overdue.

Also pondering whether or not to apply any more late-spring fertilizer. Trying to balance the line between supplying enough fertilizer to keep the grass growing without pushing lush growth when the heat of summer arrives to just encourage fungal diseases. Probably should have been applying Serenade long before now...

Thinking maybe we'll do a half-rate application of Bay State Fertilizer (would be about 0.32#N/ksqft) in conjunction with sulfate of potash at 1.0#K/ksqft, but that isn't something we've done before. At least the forecast for the next week looks like great grass-growing weather, with the 7-day forecast showing daily highs in the mid-70s and overnight lows in the low to mid-50s.

You and me both on the Serenade. I had high hopes for staying on top of it this year, but haven't started yet. I use a sprayer mounted to the back of my tractor and mounting it takes some effort. I've just been too busy or too pooped from other lawn activities to do it.

Dropped half app of Oceangro fert ( our version of Milo and Baystate here in Jersey). Just a little snack and will probably give it another half app next month. Same thoughts as K&N. Don't want to push a lot of growth.

Got my 2nd application of Podiamine on my lawn before the rain last night and this morning. It was a light rain, just enough for me not to have to water it in.

I didn’t technically do anything on the lawn, but I purchased 125 lbs of seed to tackle the front lawn reno later in August. It’s ~26k sq feet, gonna be a lot of work.

26ksqft is a lot of area for a renovation! Are you reliant upon natural watering, or do you have a way to irrigate some of that area?

It’s gonna be 50% irrigation, 50% up to Mother Nature. We have a well system and the largest area I’ve done to date with my home grown irrigation system is 13.5k sq ft. I may shift some sprinklers around as time progresses through the fall. It’s basically our entire front yard in front of the house. I’ve thought about doing 1/2 this year, and 1/2 next. I’ll admit I’m hesitant/leery/cautiously optimistic. I have someone lined up to bring in some topsoil to grade. We have a lot of areas needing leveled out. The same crew will also spread straw. It’s going to be one big orchestrated effort, but I’m gonna give it a shot. I’ve been given larger sprinkler heads (Hunter I40-06-SS) and tested them out but my well just doesn’t have the pressure to get the heads to rise. I’m looking into tripods to see if they’ll throw water further.
I decided to bite the bullet because I found a supplier (Preferred Seed) that had enough stock on hand. Everywhere else I’m striking out because of shortages, and everyone is purchasing prepping for fall plantings.
The UPS driver delivered the seed today. He said “I got some heavy ones today” and I replied that it’s my front yard in the boxes :D . He laughed and said I’m planting seed and causing more work and he tries to kill off everything.

Of the various things you mentioned, that one that really concerned me was you mention of using straw. Many people here have had bad experiences with straw containing various weed seeds. I'd really suggest using something that won't have any weed seeds in it!

I hear ya, I’ve always tried to use peat moss when I can. Tenacity helps. In the following spring I’ll get some weeds but by summer they’re gone and the grass usually outcompetes it if I follow the fall nitrogen regimens.

As for today I mowed the front, didn’t touch much else.

I'm off today so I pre-watered a tad just before some expected showers. Some parts of the lawn are a little dry, and could use a quarter inch before the expected quarter to half inch today. Showers are expected for the rest of the week.

Cut up some limbs that fell out of our oak tree overnight. We received 3+ inches of rain last night and more today.

Grr, so the heavens opened up and got 2 freaking inches of rain that afternoon and more last night :banghead:

At least the Acclaim was down for a few hours so we'll see, may need to reapply the triclopyr ester next week (I REALLY don't want that bermudagrass to get any worse).

Lawn heat stressed and dormant in several areas. Pulled up a few crabgrass weeds.
