Looked at snow on the lawn. However... yesterday I sprinkled wildflower mix around the perimeter to close out the year, and I feel that counts in some small way.

Started cleaning mowers and spreaders and putting away equipment.

In the distance, I heard a lawn tractor being driven for a while (not just idling) with the blade going. Apparently someone beat me out, and did a January mow. Or maybe they were just doing a leaf cleanup. Hmmm.

Broadcasted some Turf-Type Tall Fescue seeds on thin areas and prodiamine granular pre-emergent on all other lawn areas.

I got a new spreader put together, brought in the tractor battery for a charge and got some dormant seeding down before this most recent snowfall. Let’s hope March melts this snow and gives us an early Spring!

I cleanup-mowed over "lunch," including jettisoning trash from the gardens into the lawn and mowing it in. Don't tell my boss about my extended "lunch" today (nobody cares, Friday afternoons are dead anyway). There's still a lot to do, but we've got a 3-5" snowstorm coming in tomorrow.

Walked the perimeter, just checking everything out. I’m planning another spring and fall seeding to get more grass.

Prodiamine 65 WDG Applied to front and side before todays rain.
Think I got into the spirit of St Patrick’s Day and yesterdays 70 degree temperature

I’m in MA so well before the forsythia bloom.

Pulled my winter cab, snow blade and installed my mower deck. Also, picked up 16 bags of Milorganite. I also have 4 50lb bags of Urea. Philes plan this season... The forsythia is looking right on schedule to bloom this week too.

Did a walk of the lawn. Almost an inch of rain yesterday and the lawn is starting to green up.

Checked fertilizer prices and sighed.

Blew leaves from beds. Added iron. Picked up sticks from neighbor's trees (all good). Realized how much i neglected my lawn over the years. Ready to go.

Spot sprayed some weeds and edged around the sidewalk and driveway.

After a rainy end of last week and some nicer weather this weekend, all of the forsythia in my neighborhood I watch as pre-M tell have fully bloomed. Planning on dropping my application Wednesday before overnight rain.

Cleaned up the yard a bit and then I put down 3 bags (about 6.15lbs/k) of Encap Fast Acting Lime yesterday.

I spread 1 yard of compost on the poorest areas of my lawn. I have one steep area around a silver maple that over the years has eroded somewhat. The Mazama is starting to grow where it has always been bare dirt before. I have an another area on a hillside where a new septic system line was put in a few years ago. It looks like they filled it in with subsoil, pure clay, no O.M. Last year it turned brown in the summer. I hit it fairly good with the compost. Maybe again in the fall. I have some weird (I think) subterranean mole congregation areas, where the grass doesn't grow very well. The soil seems almost churned up. I sodded them last year, and put compost on them today as well.

Home depot had a sale on fast acting lime last week, so I bought a couple of bags.

I finally got around to spreading it today.

First mow of the year today. Sections of the front yard well over 4” growth so it was time. Fantastic green-up this spring and the lawn looked great after a haircut. Applied OceanGo (NJ Milo alternative) bag rate as well for a small feeding to kick off the season.

Changed the tractor oil, air filter, and plugs. Mowed. Sprayed for weedy crap with Triclopyr 4. Put prodiamine down using 4-gallon sprayer and did it by hand on 20k. ugh...need adult beverage :)
