Sharpened the blades, checked tire pressure, and greased my Ferris mower. Lawn is ready for the first mow but I’ve not had the free time in my schedule yet. Staring at my prodiamine waiting on a rain forecast.

Mulch mowed the lawn, 2nd time of the season. First mow was 10 days ago and the mature fescue was like a jungle!

Put down prodiamine on almost 4 acres of my lawn. Little later than I wanted but with this size yard I have to watch the weather and tomorrow night into Sunday are good chance of rain in my area. Been dry the last week and a 1/2 or so.

Mowed yesterday at 4". The lawn is quite thick. Even mowing 2x a week, my mower was stalling quite a bit! Lovin' the spring weather and the vigor of the grass. Gonna go to 3x a week on cutting while backing off the N for the rest of the month and see how little N I can get away with in preparation for summer.

Yesterday, actually. I mowed the front lawn. Most of it didn't need to be mowed, but there were patches that did and since my mower is manual, I can't let any patches get too long.

Mulched.
Home Depot has Scotts Earthgro Mulch on sale. 5 bags for $10.
I got 20 bags of the Brown and spread 10 of them so far with the on/off showers we are having.
Had to stop and take some ibuprofen.
My age is finally catching up with me. I'll be 74 in June.

Received 10 yards of mulch today to spread in the flower gardens. It’s raining, so I covered it with tarps and will spread it when the weather clears.

Edged the driveway/sidewalks, weed eatin', and cut the lawn at 4". Lawnmower is still choking in the backyard at 3 days between cuts. I would've cut it yesterday but it rained. Got my Hanna pH tester yesterday. Going to calibrate it and dig a bunch of holes to test it! Woot!

Did second cut, preceded by second leaf dump (shredded leaves I'd used to cover a bunch of hydrangeas). Think I ended up unintentionally breaking the 1/3 rule. Learning.

Finally got to cut at the two-day interval. Only stalled once on the mower today. Yesterday I took some pH readings and I was shocked they came in at 6.2 to 6.5. I was a 7.0 in Nov 2022. I did use some elemental sulfur in the fall and used Ammonium Sulfate to put some my spring nitrogen. There's a chance the temp difference between the inside temp I calibrated at and the outside ground temp (20 F delta) might be causing the issue. I'll retest again.

I did see 0.3 pH differences depending on the area of the lawn but only did 5 areas and they were relatively close. Very interesting preliminary results, at least to me!

Need to get new mulch down next week!

Did my second mow Wednesday. HOC 2 1/2" It actually looks pretty good!
Today did my 1st round of WBG for the salad greens.
Skipped Prodiamine application because the weather just didn't cooperate. :banghead:
The forsythia's around here barely turned yellow then went to green quickly.
Strange spring this year after an unusual mild winter.

Got my first mow in yesterday. My lawn has been slower to wake up and is also recovering from two puppies running on it all winter. Couple of dog spots to address and some thin spots to overseed this fall once the pups are trained to walk on a leash better. Prodiamine went down yesterday as well as milorganite. Light app of tenacity to go after some suspected poa triv.

Yesterday, put down Humic DG/Iron Sulfate/Ammonium Sulfate out @ 1 lbs of product per k & Potassium Sulfate out @ 0.5 lbs per K. Rained-in nicely overnight.

Today, cut the grass and stalled the mower right as I went out onto the sidewalk. Whoops! Had to grab a broom and pan to clean that mess up.

Cleaned out the air filter a bit on the mower. Going to change the oil/sharpen the blades/clean the deck to see if that helps with the stalling. The lawn is very dense but the stalling is annoying and drops many clumps I have to break up each time.

Spot sprayed weeds a few days ago and it's showing up now. Hoping the 3x cuts a week will fill in the weed spots (nothing crazy).

Happy weekend!
