Height of cut recommendations

I've searched for HOC recommendations and could only find limited info. Is there a consensus on this issue?

If you’ve got cool-season grass, set it at your mower’s highest setting.

Great! Now...Do you vary the height during the season? Like highest in July/August and then begin reducing it into the Fall?

High all season until late October. I keep it at 3-inches over winter. 4.25-inches spring, summer and most of the fall.

I too keep mine around 4-4.5 inches all year. This time of year I start dropping it a little each month to gradually get it lower before the snow flies. In Indiana some years I’m done mowing by November some years it’s still growing in December.

Some can certainly be a matter of preference. I keep mine at maximum height all year long, but winter? What's a winter any longer? My grass still grows in winter, just extremely slowly. You might be a little cooler in terms of weather than I am, perhaps even with the occasional snowfall on the PA/MD border if you're lucky, like we get here on the PA/NJ border.

Of course, max height on my lawn is about 3.5" on my mower.
