No turning back now

Post by Dave » August 2nd, 2009, 6:08 pm

Friday 7/31 Ordered the seed. Note to others. PLAN AHEAD. Figure out what your blend is early and call around for your seed so you can order it and have it shipped as early as possible.

Saturday 8/1 Applied Round Up. I bought the concentrate with the purple cap. It is 50% Glyphosate and the red cap was 18%. 3 oz makes 1 gallon and covers 300 sq ft. I used a 2 gallon sprayer and it took a few hours. I will see how much I missed in a few days.

While waiting for the lawn to die I will use this time to dig out some sprinkler heads and raise them up 1 inch and also change others out completely.

Good luck. Lets hope the mother nature gets the downpours out of the way before you drop the seed.

Whoa a few hours? If your going to apply RU again use a Ortho Dial sprayer(12 bucks or so at HD,worth every dollar for larger areas)....Much faster....I killed 10sqft in a half hour last year.

I am still waiting for the grass to die completely. I may have to spray again.

Gary told me to water it several times to try to encourage any weeds that might want to grow to pop up. "Fallowing" is the term he used. in a couple of week or so, spray anything thats green.

sprayed mine and went to Michigan for a week. house was easy to find when I came back. had an email from a neighbor asking what happened. great fun.

The label says to respray if any green lasts longer than 1 week. Tomorrow is 1 week so maybe I will respray on Sunday. I want to seed either next weekend or the weekend after at the latest. I really want to get the seeds down and germinating as early as possible.

CONGRATS!!! :P

I killed mine on July 23. When I came back on evening of 27th, most were dead but there were areas I missed. I think I reapplied RU on 30th. I've removed the dead grass but I have been watering it. It's also raining pretty good here. I will apply glyphosate again on 13th.

I killed mine on July 27 and hit it again a week later. Looks like toast now and I'm getting ready scalp. I applied my RU with a pump sprayer as well. I'm on phase 2 of my renovation and I needed to use my pump sprayer for accuracy.

Aug 15/16

The lawn is completely dead:

I added some spacers above the blade on the lawn mower to get the blade as low as possible.

It worked pretty well. I made multiple passes, first E-W and the N-S. I went very slow and emptied the bag every few minutes.

I will aerate the heck out of the lawn on Thursday and seed next weekend(if my seed ever gets here, I'm not happy).

Well if this project turns out well and I get the lawn I want I will be a living legend on my block. If this project does NOT turn out well and the lawn does not come in better than my previous lawn I will be a living legend on my block.

I can't lose!!!!!!!!

I ordered Blue Velvet, Blueberry and Boutique. Today was in the lower 90's so I decided to cut out of work at noon and spend the day in the hot sun. I took a string trimmer and went over the whole lawn with it. More work but I got rid of much of the dead stuff still sticking out of the lawn. It is almost all soil now. I will aerate the crap out of the lawn on Thursday. I will rent the aerator for all day and aerate till I drop. Here are pics of the weed wacked lawn.

The first 2 pics u can see where I have not yet weed wacked. You can see the area by the downspout is not yet weedwacked.
