Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Some are coreopsis tinctoria. Some are crabgrass and another tall grass that I don't know. The other lighter clumps you see are prickly lettuce.
I'm not sure if I have poa triv. I didn't have it on my old lawn before.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Glad I found a pic. The coreopsis tinc is the plant with yellow flower and red center. It reseeds crazy. So how it got there? The coreopsis plant leaning was down towards the ground mid August. It had tons of spent flowers. A spent flower of this plant contains hundreds of seeds. Since it wasn't looking good, I cut it. I forgot that I should have walked to the path that leads to my front door. Instead, I walked on the bare soil and I must have dropped tons of seeds of it. I couldn't find the picture of the cut coreopsis plant. I remember shaking it and thousands of seeds fell to the garage floor.eriocaulon wrote:In front, what are those lighter clumps of grass? poa triv?

Are you sure that isn't a goblin flower, Gaillardia? http://henryfields.com/product.asp?pn=0 ... 1254614592s1mpl3k1d wrote:Glad I found a pic. Yep, I am sure it's Coreopsis Tinc. Here is a closeup shot.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Actually, I was looking at this pic and the sporadic lighter green clumps. Now that you mention it, it is probably just baby crabgrass. No worries.
But those flowers do seed unbelievably now that you mention it. And those are perennials? Will 2,4-D take it out? My neighbor has ornamental grass that seeds heavily and does the same thing--that would drive me crazy.

Wow, do those look similar from a distance! However, close up that leaf is pure threadleaf coreopsis. I have several of those--Zagreb, though, so tiny brilliant yellow flowers.
I have the goblin blanketflower myself and love it--it blooms reliably from spring through frost.

2,4-D takes it out very easily, and it can't dominate in a dense lawn so it's no problem once the grass is thick.eriocaulon wrote:Actually, I was looking at this pic and the sporadic lighter green clumps. Now that you mention it, it is probably just baby crabgrass. No worries.

You think that's bad, try well-treated Black-Eyed Susan. If I didn't pull it out and throw it away, it would take over my garden in nothing flat.

It's an annual plant eriocaulon.
If let say I do have poa t, are they easy to eradicate?

Yes, fairly easy with Certainty. Seems like most of us have the stuff so you can get some from one of us!

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Woohoo, we had our first hard frost today. We reached 25.3 F. I can't wait to see the weeds tomorrow morning since I was out since morning and came back just few minutes ago.
When I left this morning, half part of the canna leaves were dead. My castor bean plants were all drooping and my amaranths were all laying on the ground.
I'm hoping most of the weeds are dead or damaged.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Good morning folks, I need your help on this grass with lighter green color. eriocaulon was right. I'm seeing many of this in the front hell strip. Is it a kbg? Also, at the bottom of the picture, there is a grass with seed heads. What is it? Thanks.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
The picture makes it look clumpy. First guess is Poa Annua. The seedhead one at the bottom isn't visible enough to make a guess. More pictures, pls!

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
I agree with Andy. Poa Annua. PULL IT OUT! It may or may not have seeds this fall, but come next spring... look out. Better to get it now. Unfortunately, from your earlier pic, it looked like you had a lot. I would be inclined to pull what you can and winter seed the area. It could be that fill you brought in had the seeds in there.

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Is it possible that I those Poa Annua came from the sod quality seeds I bought?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Seedhead at the bottom?

Side question.. Do you dig up your cannas?

Re: Finally, seeds are down(Day 1)
Make sure you get a pre-M down early next year and get those out, the rest will fill in over the spots. If you try to seed them you'll end up with more Poa A.
