EVERYBODY SHOULD READ THIS POST!!!

Post by Sidney » April 15th, 2014, 12:28 am

I will NEVER go a year without spreading a Pre emergent (0-0-7) ever again!! I have more weeds this year compared to the last 4 years!!!!! I have weeds that I haven't ever seen before. I will never ever skip a pre emergent again.

if it makes you feel any better i didn't get to use any either because i didn't have a chance to travel to JDL, and the big box stores don't stock what you need until it's too late it seems.

I'll add another "I'll never" to this thread.... I'll never spot spray with roundup again in the winter! I did when "dormant" and have some spots that are not greening over as the surrounding areas... without those spots, I'd be pretty happy how the lawn's going. I know they will fill in very soon as I see some green in most of them and the others a few fescue patches, will grow over quickly. Well, I might spot spray under similar circumstances to get rid of fescue clumps or patches, but they are gone from this lawn. But for general light weeds here and there, I won't be doing that again.

I second Steverino...

I had tons of winter annuals pop up in late Feb/early March and since the bermuda was 'dormant' (no green), I chose to use round-up. The weeds were so bad I basically sprayed 75% of the front yard. Now, no weeds and no bermuda in those spots. I should have used WGB!

I agree on both Pre-M and the Roundup.

Had tons of winter weeds but then again this was the first Spring that I have used Pre-M. Looking forward to seeing the results and to carry over the treatment to the fall/winter.

I too used Roundup when the burmunda was "dorment" - Now those parts of the yard are still brown...

@bmarley5780 I used pre-m the last 4 years and usually only had at most 3 different weeds in very few spots to deal with. This year I have several different weeds, some I have never seen before and I have them all over the yard. You have to put down the pre-m EVERY year!!

I spot sprayed the Round Up in the back yard so I am not too worried about a few brown spots.

What was the 0 0 7 pre emmergent product that you didn't use this year? I would like to hear your suggestions, I have been hand pulling on a newer bermuda yard and would like to prepare properly with the winter and spring applications in the future.

I use the JDL products. Do you have a JDL near you? It's the ONLY place I can find 0-0-7 in Columbia. None of the big stores have it and neither does one of the more popular garden store (Woodley's) in Columbia carries it.

JDL also has a schedule that I follow.
