Hey Begotten,

Did you end up purchasing the plugs or pull them from existing turf? Can you provide any info on prep, fert, watering, install. Part selfish for my own situation but might help others! Thanks

i bought them from hancock seed out of florida.

the prep was pretty easy as it's only about 500 sq. ft... started with spraying what was left of the winter rye + st. aug with generic glypho and raking it all up a few weeks later. filled in a couple of low spots and dragged it smooth with the rake and push broom. then the day before the plugs were delivered i punched the holes where i wanted them.

i usually water 3-4 times a day for 5-10 minutes depending on how hot it is. haven't put down any fertilizer yet, figured i would wait until the plugs take root and green back up again because when you take them out of the box from shipping they're pretty sickly looking.

Begotten,

Thanks for the input! I've never shipped plugs but bought 3x3 plug flats from a local nursery to establish my zoysia backyard. From my experience they had very dense/long top growth and had roots that were almost bound. Was that your experience? I will say, in my experience they take very fast, faster than plugs I've pulled with various pluggers out of existing turf. For a smaller area I think establishment/spread would be faster with minimal cost.

Just joined .
Congrats to the OP for plugging the yard . Looks like good progress .I have no experience with Celsius for crabgrass control if that's what you need it for ? IME celebration was taken over by crabgrass .Did not see any celebration . I hit the yard with nitrogen slow release and some iron . I had to cut the grass every 4 days but soon realized I was feeding and cutting just CG . I researched Celsius but got hit or miss info with the product . I ordered some Quinclorac Select 75 1lb (Generic for Drive 75 ) and Duo Stick MSO 1 QT . MSO/crop oil is a surfactant. Any who most DF's or WDG's work best with a surfactant . I mixed and sprayed per directions and saw the crabgrass dying after 24hrs.In the period of a few days my Celebration popped up from nowhere .FWIW The Select 75 and Duo Stick were 55.00 to the door .I am sure Celsuis is 99.00+ 4 10oz + MSO .. Quinclorac can make enough for 1 acre if broadcast spraying . In a nutshell a little goes a long way .
I was just looking at the pro plugger as I have to complete my last section of BY to Tifway419 . I have a few more projects in the yard too.SIGH
Here is what the quinclorac select 75df & MSO did for my crabgrass issue .
U can kind of see a lot of crabgrass in the this pic .
My pride n joy, my Tamukeyama Maple Tree

A close up of the dying crabgrass .

U can see some brown areas /missed areas ,slight discoloration . It's a nice pretty fuzzy dark blue green now (not this pic) n not perfect yet but still a work in progress.
FWIW I chose celebration sod since it is better at shade tolerance ,grows lateral more than vertical , dark blue green color and also has sheaths over the roots to store water for drought tolerance . My sod came from Perfect Turf ..the company that dis the ECU field .

Sorry for the late reply. First, I have severely neglected the plugs. Water is not an issue as it has rained more this month than I can remember in July (raining again today). Looked back at my fert schedule and it was a month since I had fertilized, so dropped some directly on the plugs in between showers. Weeds are still an issue. I'll post some pics when it drys out and I can mow.

just had a monsoon storm pass thru and the yard is flooded, i'll try to get a pic when i can. a lot of the plugs were recently eaten up by armyworms too, but there's still a few in good shape.

Pretty cool. Looks like they could use a slight string trimming.

i do it once in a while. figured i would let them be while they're already stressed from the bugs and heat.

I would not string trim the stolons, they will attacth themselves to new ground and "create" a new root and keep multiplying. Just keep fertilizing and watering for now.

I suggest letting the grass grow long and tall right now. You dont have enough grass to shade out other grass, Even then I would just mow the tops off once a week.
